Cambridge mayor thanked at his last council meeting |
CAMBRIDGE — Bundled in bubble wrap and layers of tissue paper, and tucked inside a neatly wrapped box, lay Cambridge Mayor Stephen Rideout’s parting gift from Cambridge and its City Council: A key to the city.
With all its wrappings, it took Rideout more than a minute to unveil it during his final City Council meeting on Nov. 25.
After serving as a city commissioner and then as mayor, Rideout is retiring. In October, Rideout told the Star Democrat that he and his wife plan to move to a continuing care retirement community in Frederick. As a result, he is cutting his term as mayor a few weeks short. His last day in office is Dec. 3.

Chorus of Dorchester Christmas Concert
Free holiday concert!
This year’s concert, “Christmas Is...” aims to rekindle the joy of Christmas in each of us with well-loved favorites such as “Oh, Come all Ye Faithful” (prepare to sing along!), “White Christmas”, and a whimsical offering of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. The joy of the Nativity story is expressed in the stirring “Hodie Christus Natus Est” (Today Christ is Born) and British composer John Rutter’s liltingly beautiful “Angel’s Carol”. The 77 voices of the all-volunteer Chorus offer this free concert out of a love of singing and a desire to share the wonder of the season with our community. Have you ever had the thrill of singing Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus”? Then come prepared to step up and join in the concert finale. Music will be provided.
Since 1975 the Chorus of Dorchester has been bringing together Dorchester County residents and friends from Talbot, Caroline, and Somerset Counties. Members range from middle schoolers to senior citizens, all united by a shared love of singing. It includes those who have participated since the Chorus’ inception in 1975 as well as a number who have been welcomed for the first time this year. The Chorus is under the direction of Cookie Brohawn, accompanied by Laura Todd on piano and Barbara Hubbard on organ, and funded by the Nathan Foundation.

Blue Christmas Service
A service of remembrance and hope.
The christmas season is hard for those whose hearts are hurting.
The designation acknowledges the "Blue" feelings many people experience during the Advent and christmas seasons.
For those who have lost a loved one, this is a time of aute lonelieness. For those who have lost a relationship or a job, experienced failing health or financial setbacks, this is a time of pain, confusion and anxiety. We can still worship with honesty in the confidence that God shares our pain, understands our loss and seeks to be present in the comforting and hopeful ways.
Blue Christmas is a gentle, contemplative service that offers comfort and hope for those carrying pain or loss during this season of celebration.
