Join the Chamber Energy Purchasing Cooperative

September 6 - October 1

There is no better time for members to enroll in the Chamber Energy Purchasing Cooperative Program and gain price stability, budget control and peace-of-mind.

The Dorchester Chamber of Commerce has partnered with nationally recognized energy management experts, CQI Associates, to administer and manage the Chamber Energy Purchasing Cooperative. Competitive rates are obtained by leveraging aggregated usage from members of 23 Chambers of Commerce. The group purchasing power allows members to receive lower rates than they could typically attain on their own.
Since 2004, the Cooperative electricity rates have been lower than both market rates and the weighted annual utility standard offer service rates. During our previous campaigns, participants saw an average annual savings of $4,000. Natural gas rates were also lower on average than market rates and utility monthly winter peak indexed rates.

TAKE ACTION! REGISTER NOW in the current campaign which runs from September 6, 2021 to October 1, 2021.

To learn more about the purchasing cooperative simply watch this short video.

If you have any questions or require additional details, please contact Joe Tabeling with CQI Associates at [email protected] or 443-472-3870.

New Beginnings Shows Kids New Experiences
CAMBRIDGE — A summer learning program for urban kids located in the Greenwood neighborhood in Cambridge has drawn to close for the school year after a season of giving those kids experiences they might not have otherwise had.
One summer adventure the New Beginnings kids embarked on was a river boat ride on Friday, Aug. 13, from Suicide Bridge Restaurant in Secretary.
“The goal is to give kids experience to get to them to see there are things beyond their zip code,” said New Beginnings Executive Director Dr. Theresa Stafford in an interview during a visit to the program’s facility on Friday, Aug. 20, on a day the kids’ trip to a water park in Ocean City was rained out.

UM Shore Regional Health Sleep Disorders Center Receive Program Accreditation From American Academy of Sleep Medicine
EASTON, Md. (August 31, 2021) – The University of Maryland Shore Regional Health Sleep Disorders Center at UM Shore Medical Center in Easton recently received program reaccreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Both the Sleep Disorders Center at UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester and at UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Queenstown also received program reaccreditation, in December 2020. All three programs have been reaccredited for five years.
As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers, the AASM is dedicated to setting standards and promoting excellence in sleep medicine health care, education and research. To receive accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

Meals til Monday receives Donation form Mid-Shore Board of Relators
EASTON — COVID-19 gave Mid-Shore Board of Realtors the opportunity to rethink fundraisers. Virtual raffles, with the help of Mid-Shore Community Foundation, was the answer. Each quarter a different themed basket is raffled off, and last quarter’s spring garden basket raised $1,532 with half going to Meals til Monday.
Meals til Monday, founded in 2017, began feeding 25 students; now the program helps over 398 children in Dorchester County.
“We are very grateful for the continued support Mid-Shore Board of REALTORS has provided Dorchester children for the past several years,” said Leslie Bishop, co-founder of Meals til Monday. “We’ve developed a strong relationship with MSBR. Their members understand the importance of well-nourished children to their education.”

Mid-Shore Board of Realtors supports Baywater Animal Rescue
EASTON — The Mid-Shore Board of Realtors is supporting Dorchester’s Baywater Animal Rescue as part of the real estate group commitment to helping pets and protecting animals.

A Day of Remembrance

The Arc Central Chesapeake Region (The Arc), a nonprofit committed to
transforming lives for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
(IDD), and its partners, For All Seasons, The Avalon Theater, and the Talbot
Department of Emergency Services, supported by the Town of Easton, invite the
community to a Day of Remembrance in commemoration of the tragic events of
September 11, 2001. The organization will join hundreds of others across the
community in turning a day of tragedy into a day of support and hope.
The Day of Remembrance event will pay tribute to the individuals lost and injured in the attacks, as well as honor the first responders and the many others who have risen in service to support their community members. This event is the final event in a series of activities that focused on awareness of how community members can support each other during a crisis. The events also focused on emergency preparedness, sharing strategies that ensure that vulnerable populations can receive the help they need should calamity strike. Our activities were inclusive of people of all abilities, including children and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Community members are invited to come share in this event, including a video display of the summer’s activities. Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be offered.

The Day of Remembrance ceremony will feature Beth Ann Langrell, executive director of For All Seasons, who will speak on her personal connection to that tragic day twenty years ago, as well as discuss what services and supports a community like ours can offer each other in times of crisis.

Annual Ham and Crabcake Dinner

Many folks have been inquiring as to whether the annual dinner will be held. Due to the incredibly high cost of crabs this year (double what we normally pay), we discussed our options at our monthly meeting last week. We have decided to continue our tradition with a few minor changes.

The dinner will be held on Sunday September 12th beginning at noon. The price will be $25 this year.  We WILL NOT have any preordering this year, so this will be first come first serve. We are planning for 250 dinners which is comparable to last year's service. Also like last year we will be doing drive thru only. The menu will be the same as always with crab cakes, ham, homemade potato salad, green beans, beets and a dinner roll. We will be offering fewer but larger crab cakes with the dinners.

The decision to go forward with the dinner was based on our long standing tradition as well as the fact we depend on this event as a major fundraiser. Please help us sell out of our 250 dinners. This is far fewer than we normally serve so it shouldn't be a difficult task.

A number of folks have also inquired about the New Year's Eve Party. It is in the planning stages and we expect to be even better than the previous. Stay tuned for more info.
