Legal Well Being

The New Mexico Lawyer Assistance Program (NM LAP)

Donate to the NM LAP's In This Together Fund

The New Mexico Lawyer Assistance Program operates out of the State Bar of New Mexico in an effort to provide confidential well-being resources and services to the NM legal community. NM LAP oversees a confidential helpline, monitoring service, volunteer committee, and outreach with the goal of helping legal professionals decrease or eliminate struggles with mental health conditions, substance dependence, and other life crises.

NM LAP’s support services may include temporary financial assistance, through the In This Together Fund, for program clients requiring treatment, augmentation of program services, special events for client support and public awareness.

All donations to NM LAP’ In This Together fund are tax-deductible and are a meaningful and compassionate way to improve the administration of justice, the legal profession, and protect the public.

Judicial Wellness Program (NMJWP)

Shifting from “maditude” to “gratitude”: November is a time to be thankful, and when we dwell in the negative, maybe we are overwhelmed by the work, have conflict or disagreement with a colleague or client, shifting from “maditude” to “gratitude” can help. When you are appreciating the things you are grateful for, it is hard to focus on the negative. Try it this week and see what kind of things shift.

Well-being does not happen overnight. It starts with small changes that we can add to our practice, or small things we can stop doing that are not adding to our wellbeing. What is something that can add a 5% increase to your well-being?

Please visit our website to find out more about our JWELL services. https://www.sbnm.org/Member-Services/New-Mexico-Judicial-Wellness-Program

Equity in Justice (EIJ)

The mission of the State Bar of New Mexico’s Equity in Justice Program is to cultivate and grow a legal profession in New Mexico that is representative of and reflective of the people of New Mexico.

News & Announcements

The New Mexico Medical Review Commission invites all State Bar of New Mexico licensees to volunteer as hearing panelists to review malpractice claims against qualified medical providers by the Medical Malpractice Act.

Volunteer panelists provide an important public service. The Commission relies exclusively on volunteer medical providers and attorneys to serve as hearing panelists.

Attorneys who volunteer for hearing panel are eligible for one (1) General Continuing Legal Educaiton (CLE) credit per panel, up to four (4) credits per year.

The Election Official Legal Defense Network (EOLDN) is a nationwide, nonpartisan project that connects election administrators who have been harassed, intimidated, and targeted due to their election duties with attorneys who can give legal guidance and, where appropriate, representation. Interested attorneys can review the EOLDN FAQ and watch a 15-minute orientation video here. They can then join the network by completing our participation form. Questions are welcome at outreach@eoldn.org. Election law experience is not necessary.
