Did you know?

July is recognized as a month of rejuvenation and renewal — making it the perfect time for legal professionals to reassess their work-life balance. Studies show that attorneys and legal staff who intentionally schedule downtime during summer months report lower rates of burnout and improved cognitive performance.

Consider taking a brief mid-year inventory of your mental health, workload and personal goals. Small adjustments now can lead to significant improvements in your well-being throughout the rest of the year.

July: Time Management and Setting Boundaries

In the fast-paced legal world, time management is crucial to avoiding stress and burnout. Without clear boundaries, work can quickly bleed into personal time, leaving little room for relaxation or self-care. The key to maintaining balance is learning to manage your workload effectively and set boundaries that protect your well-being. Prioritizing tasks, breaking large projects down into manageable chunks and protecting your personal time can help prevent overwhelm. Also learning to say “no” when necessary and communicating your limits to your clients and colleagues can make a difference. These small changes can make huge differences for you in your practice.

Professional Development Program (PDP)

In addition to other resources, the Professional Development Program has developed and posted to the State Bar website various checklists, forms, articles and links to relevant resources to allow lawyers to follow best practices when engaged in succession planning, closing files, managing trust accounts, appearing before a tribunal in a virtual setting and starting a small law firm. You can find them at the Professional Development Program tab on the State Bar of New Mexico’s website.
