Thy Kingdom Come: How to take part

The Bishop of Lynn encourages us to get involved in Thy Kingdom Come

29 May - 8 June 2025

Can you pray for five people every day for 11 days?

Whether you have joined in before or not, we invite you to take part in Thy Kingdom Come from 29 May - 8 June and encourage you to pray for five people who have not yet responded to the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Thy Kingdom Come (TKC) is a global ecumenical prayer movement that invites Christians to pray from Ascension to Pentecost. Find out more by watching the video introduced by the Bishop of Lynn, the Rt Revd Dr Jane Steen.

You can find resources, including a daily prayer app, a daily booklet and a website full of information via the link below.

Pray together for our Vision

In a world that often feels unstable and uncertain, where people are often fearful and looking for hope, the Bible tells the story of individuals, often overlooked or underestimated, who are called from obscurity, imperfection and even brokenness to become vessels for God’s transforming work. From Genesis through to Revelation, Scripture repeatedly reveals the impact and power of one life lived for God and empowered by His Word and Spirit.

Our vision across the Diocese is Transformed by Christ: Prayerful, Pastoral and Prophetic. It is a big vision which is rooted in something very small: the belief that, by the grace of God, one heart transformed by Christ, living in the purposes of the Holy Spirit, is sufficient to transform another life, a whole family, a school, workplace, market town, urban estate, rural village or coastal community.

Transformed hearts transform hearts. Transformed communities transform communities.

Work on our Diocesan plan to see this vision become a reality continue to progress well, We would like to offer you the chance to help actively shape our future.

Prayer underpins this whole process and work. The Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Revd Graham Usher, encourages us to pray for mission and ministry across Norfolk and Waveney in our life together. This includes a prayer to share with your church community and use together.

Our Vision Prayer for our Life Together

(Please do share with your church communities)

Christ of transformation,

sow deep into the soil

of our hearts and parishes,

your seeds of prayerful listening,

conversation and discernment:

then nurture their growth, we pray,

with the gentle rains of your Spirit

that they may flower and fruit

into new ways of revealing

the abundant life you offer

and long for us to share.

Amen

Join the Vision conversation

At the March Diocesan Synod, the current challenges we are facing as a Church in Norfolk and Waveney were presented through a study of the data compiled from the annual Statistics for Mission. Synod then shared their priorities for what they think are the most urgent challenges we face. Now we want to hear what you think are the best and most exciting ways to address these challenges in the places you live and worship.

We are very aware that the challenges and opportunities churches face – and indeed the solutions – can often be different in Rural locations, Smaller/Market Towns, Large Coastal Towns and across Norwich.

We are therefore planning four separate online conversations.

If you are a part of your local church community, we are inviting you to attend one of these to discuss the fulfilment of the vision of being Transformed by Christ in your particular context.

These events will cover three main topics:

  1. Sharing with you and hearing your feedback on the key challenges we face.
  2. How to develop a deeper and fuller sense of what it would mean to be truly Transformed by Christ: Prayerful, Pastoral, Prophetic - and to hear from you on that sense of call.
  3. To receive your ideas on what we could do in our parishes or benefices (and as a whole diocese) to overcome our challenges and to become the Church that Christ is calling us to be.

You can join a conversation for your location:

Your contributions, prayers and ongoing support are vital, and we are deeply grateful for all you do in your parish and benefice communities.

Sacred Spaces: Wild Places - helping to cherish our churchyards

“We looked at why this is an expression of our faith in action, how to get started with wildlife recording, why recording wildlife is so important for the long-term monitoring of our churchyards, and how we can get involved in national and regional citizen science projects." Barbara Bryant, Diocesan Environment Officer.

Significant proposals to enhance pensions mark a major step in supporting clergy wellbeing

A major step in a significant package of proposals for clergy well-being is announced today, which if implemented will increase future pension benefits for existing and future pensioners.

The improvements are being proposed by the Archbishops’ Council, based on analysis by the Church of England Pensions Board. They include restoring the target pension level to two-thirds of pensionable stipend, coupled with an increase to pensions that have come into payment since 2011. General Synod will be asked to consider these proposals, which will require changes to the scheme rules, this July, with potential implementation after April 2026.

House of Bishops statement on Gaza

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)

Recalling our Easter statement (April 14, 2025) following the Government of Israel’s bombing of the Anglican Al Ahli Hospital, we cry out in protest at the death, destruction and suffering that men, women and children have endured in Gaza, Israel and the region these last 20 months. We abhor war in all its forms and see it as a sign of human brokenness.
