In Jesus’ time here on earth, he was faithful in caring for others, ministering to those in need, showing compassion, and bringing healing to those who were suffering. Jesus commanded His followers to love one another as He loves us. We’re to encourage and lift one another up. We’re called to follow in Christ’s footsteps.
In my role as Caring Ministries Director, it is a gift to be able to witness so many ways our congregation pours out their love to others. At some point in our lives, we each face times of hardships. FMC is a Stephen Ministry congregation. Stephen Ministers are not counselors or pastors, but they are trained to offer one-to-one Christ-centered care to people going through difficult times. Today I’d like to share a message from Anita Natale. Anita has been a member of FMC for over 40 years, is a trained Stephen Minister, and leads our Stephen Ministry team. In Anita’s own words:
Grief knocks at our door throughout our lives. It knocks particularly hard after the loss of a loved one. Grief also shows up following the unplanned move to a new location, the loss of a pet, the loss of a job, as well as the loss of a dream. Our dreams are lost following a divorce, the death of a child or a serious illness.
As I was coping with grief of my own, I realized I must keep moving through my grief and not try to go around it. Through a nudge from my FMC family, I heard and answered God’s call. Knowing, Loving and Serving God! Service!
I joined Stephen Ministry! I was confident that serving as a Stephen Minister would benefit a person who was grieving; however, I didn’t realize that serving as a Stephen Minister would also change me!
God, through Stephen Ministry, changes people!
