July’s Nevada Lawyer Shines Spotlight on Niche Law Practice

Niche law practices focus on a specific, limited area of law, offering specialized services to a particular type of client or legal issue. The July issue of Nevada Lawyer magazine takes a look at what niche practices are and how to manage them successfully.

Joel G. Selik explores the pros and cons of specializing in two disparate niches. For Selik, those are legal malpractice and judgment collection. Marc Randazza shares his niche practice playbook, complete with advice on finding your place in the niche practice world. Krisanne Cunningham and Hailey Nicklin offer their unique expertise on mergers and acquisitions, and Jessica Perlick penned a quick guide to qui tams.

As always, the magazine includes regular features such as the president’s message, news and notes, and the bar counsel report. While you are there, check out the Nevada Lawyer archives for a lengthy list of back issues.

This Week at the State Bar

During the last six months, Fee Dispute Arbitration Committee members assisted in the successful mediation of 21 client/attorney fee dispute claims.

The State Bar of Nevada will be one of 30 states to participate in a comprehensive study to assess mental health and well-being in the legal profession. Nevada lawyers have been randomly selected to receive the survey, and additional communications will follow in July. More information on the study can be found here.

The Nevada Bar Foundation’s grant program awards funding for initiatives that promote legal education, spark youth interest in the law, support minority lawyers, and further delivery of legal services. All eligible organizations are encouraged to apply. The deadline to apply is August 1.

Clio Hosting CLE on Law Firm Security

Clio, a State Bar of Nevada Business Partner, is hosting a CLE titled “Law Firm Security Considerations: Remote Access, AI Usage, and Vendor Risk,” at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, via webinar.

Chances are your law firm doesn’t operate the way it did even a few years ago. Teams work remotely across different time zones. AI tools draft contracts and review documents. Client files sync seamlessly between devices and tools.

While these changes have improved efficiency and flexibility, they’ve also introduced new security risks. Especially because most firms today are adopting new technology without a clear framework to evaluate vendor security, leaving critical vulnerabilities exposed.

This upcoming CLE webinar will give attendees the practical knowledge they need to protect their firm. Attendees will learn how to:

  • Identify and address security vulnerabilities in remote work environments;
  • Safely integrate AI tools into your legal practice without compromising client data; and
  • Evaluate technology vendors with confidence—including key questions to ask.

Can’t make the date? Sign up anyway—Clio will send a recording to everyone who registers.
