January 2023 | Issue 35
Message from your Chapter President, Rebecca Nolan
Happy New Years!

As 2023 is underway, I am extremally excited to celebrate the CT/Westchester Chapter with the 2023 New Year's Kickoff on January 25th. Our sponsor, OFI has generously made their Stamford location available and we look forward to sharing what's in store for the Chapter this year.

January brings new ideas and opportunities for our members. We will welcome three new board members at the January board meeting later this month and we will also say good-bye to Mark Nisbett, CEO People Places & Spaces.

Mark has been an incredible leader for the CT/Westchester Chapter. His contributions as a member, board director, Chapter president, and as a board director on the Global board has elevated our Chapter and created new partnerships locally and globally. He has present new ideas to focus on DEI&B supporting the Chapter with a better vision. His constant "what gets measured, gets done " attitude is one of the reasons the Chapter is a top global chapter of its size.

On behalf of the board of directors and members with much gratitude, THANK YOU, MARK for all your contributions to the CT/Westchester Chapter!

Looking forward, the Program Committee has been working through the holidays to coordinate great programs:

January 26th, the 2023 Annual Economic Outlook.  This year's panel further supports our commitment to DE&I with an all female panel who will offer insight for the future of CT & Westchester County.

Joining moderator, Susan Winkler, Executive Director CT Insurance & Financial Services, will be newly appointed Commissioner Alexandra Daum of the CT Department of Economic & Community Development. Representing Westchester County we welcome Bridget Gibbons Director, Economic Development and rounding out the panel from a global prospective, Rebecca Rockey, Economist/Global Head of Economic Analysis & Forecasting, Cushman & Wakefield. This is a free lunch-hour webinar, so grab a sandwich and join the conversation January 26th.

February 15th in the continuation in our DE&I series, a virtual event with Dr. Dwinita Mosby-Tyler, who will discuss "Five Things to do in Your DE&I Strategy: What does Success Look Like?".

March (TBD) brings together the Program and Young Leaders Committees hosted by & at Hartford Steam Boiler. A panel discussion followed with a tour of newly completed spaces and social hour to follow will keep us all learning new ideas that support our mission to promote and advance the corporate real estate industry.

April, May, and June, will all have excellent opportunities to connect and as always, it is because of our members, programs and special events we continue to stay committed to CoreNet Global and the Connecticut Westchester Chapter.

Join us in 2023, renew your membership, become a new member; use the 30-Day Trial membership and you will experience the WHY CoreNet CT/Westchester.
Chapter Events
CoreNet Global CT/Westchester has been busy planning in person chapter events with valuable content at desirable locations with lots of networking opportunities. Like many other professional member associations, charging for events took a back seat during the pandemic. With events in full swing, we return to the general practice of charging for events. Please remember, if your company is a sponsor you have benefits regarding event registration. If you have questions on these benefits, please reach out to Megan Parsons. We look forward to seeing you in person at our next event!

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: HOW TO MOVE CONVERSATIONS TO THE NEXT LEVEL
January 2023
Guest Post by Ryan Sullivan, Global Talent Acquisition Manager and D&I Champion, Gravitas Recruitment Group

When we talk about Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace, the statistics are alarming.

In the UK, the employment rate is only 62.8% for ethnic minorities. On top of that, ethnic minority employees hold only 1 in 16 top management positions in the country. With other minorities, the scene is similar: Autistic adults have the lowest employment rate among disabled people in the UK, with an unemployment rate of 78%; the gender pay gap in the UK is still quite high with women earning on average 14.9% less than men; in the LGBTQ+ community, 35% have hidden their identity at work for fear of discrimination, and 18% of trans people don’t feel able to wear work attire representing their gender expression.
