What is the TSIA2?
The TSI Assessment 2 (formerly known as the TSI) measures your strengths and weaknesses in mathematics and statistics, reading and writing, and is an indicator of how ready you are to handle college-level courses. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with your academic background, goals and interests, are used by academic advisers to place you in the appropriate course that matches your skill level. The goal is to help you become ready for college-level course work. There are TWO sections to the TSIA2, Math, Reading/Writing. The TSI is $10 for the math section, $20 for the reading/writing section, and $29 for both sections.

Who needs to take it?
Every student planning to attend college in Texas needs to take it, unless they meet score requirements on external assessments such as the ACT or SAT and are exempt. You can be exempt from one section or both sections.
Math:
  • A minimum score of 530 on the Mathematics test for a TSI exemption in math
  • A student must first achieve a minimum composite score of 23 with at least 19 on math for an exemption in math
  • Passed both semesters of Algebra 2 before senior year with an 80 or higher per semester
Reading/Writing
  • A student must first achieve a minimum composite score of 23 with at least 19 on English for an exemption in reading and writing
  • A minimum score of 480 on the Evidenced-Based Reading & Writing (EBRW) for a TSI exemption in both reading and writing

Financial Aid

Although it is passed the January 15th deadline, it is still not too late to apply for any extra funding. Consider applying for the FAFSA for federal aid. If your student is undocumented, then the TASFA is the best option for Texas state funds for Texas colleges. If you have applied and need to clear verification, we’re here to help with that, as well. For assistance with this and other financial aid questions, join us for open financial aid advising on Financial Aid Friday from 12:20 to 1:30.
