One Island Giving Day is a one-day virtual event that aims to raise over $1 million dollars for local, Long Island-based nonprofits to help create a stronger Long Island for ALL Long Islanders. The event encourages our community to contribute through a single online giving platform on (or before) October 26, 2017. The campaign is coordinated by The Hagedorn Foundation in partnership with area nonprofit organizations including EAC Network.
What's Happening
EAC Network manages four Senior Centers in Nassau County, recently assuming  the Long Beach and Merrick locations earlier this year. Seniors at the centers engage in activities including tai chi, dancercise, beach visits, and more, but with summer fun came summer heat, and a need for additional efforts to keep seniors hydrated was quickly noted. Kathryn Cannino, Program Director of EAC Network's Long Island Parenting Institute , was a featured expert in Newsday's recent article, "Top 10 Most Googled Parenting Questions in New York." When discussing sleeping scenarios, "She says parents should respond to their baby’s temperament in the first few months and not expect that they will necessarily sleep in a crib in their own room as an infant. She says a baby may take to the crib more easily if parents “room share” but don’t bed share." Read more.
Last month, YDR Events hosted their annual #Sunsational summer charity pool party at a private home in Dix Hills. #Sunsational is one of their two annual events that are part of their #Down4theCause party series, which has a mission to have a good time for a good cause. AARP Volunteers Distribute Fresh Produce
Once again, our Fresh from the Garden program has seen incredible corporate support - this time from AARP. AARP volunteers joined staff and interns to distribute fresh produce provided by our organizational partner, Long Island Cares, to seniors at Magnolia Gardens in New Cassel, where there is little, difficult, or no access to nutritious foods. Thank you, AARP!
