What's Happening
Each February, millions of people come together to celebrate National Cancer Prevention Month to raise awareness about cancer and ways to safeguard health. Mesothelioma is closely associated with exposure to asbestos, a naturally found mineral. Although researchers knew about the dangers of asbestos as far back as the 1920s, it was used extensively until the 1970s. Read more.
Our employee awards continue! We recently held another breakfast at our Child Advocacy Center in Central Islip to celebrate more of our staff for their dedication to our agency. Congratulations to Joanne Marotta, Office Manager of Suffolk TASC , for 30 years of service, Andrea Ramos-Topper, Division Director of Children & Youth Services, for 20 years, and Kathryn Cannino, Program Director of the Long Island Parenting Institute , for 10 years! Emily Jolly Wins Rookie of the Year Award
Employee recognition jumped from Central Islip to the Bronx where Emily Jolly, Case Manager at our Bronx County Re-Entry Task Force, received the Rookie of the Year award! Bronx County Re-Entry Task Force provides re-entry services to individuals released from prison, such as employment readiness skills training to help prepare individuals to re-enter the workforce. The program also provides cognitive-behavioral interventions to address the criminogenic needs of this population.
A Pickle of a Puzzle at the Hempstead Senior Center
Mamie Winfield, longtime member at our Hempstead Senior Community Service Center , has a hobby - she loves puzzles ! The one of the world map that she is currently working on has over 2,000 pieces! Also prominent is a beautiful bulletin board the seniors created for Black History Month. If you'd like to donate puzzles, arts and crafts, or other activities for the seniors, please contact us .
Heartfelt Donation Made to Nassau Supervised Visitation
A former Nassau Supervised Visitation (NSV) parent recently dropped off a donation of new stuffed animals for the children of the program, which provides supervised visits between non-custodial parents and their children in a safe, child-friendly facility. Because the donor had experienced first-hand the emotional end of visits for parents and children, they hoped these stuffed animals would provide comfort to the children visiting in the future. We know our kids will love them! Interested in donating new toys or games to NSV? Contact us . You can also make a contribution here.
