THE TOWN OF LAHAINA HAS BEEN DESTROYED. PLEASE HELP.
The blaze that swept through West Maui is the deadliest US wildfire in over a century. Please help us work with our local partners to provide relief and support. Make an urgent tax-deductible donation to the Hawai'i Emergency Response Fund today.

We are also donating this Sunday's loose plate offering to relief efforts in Hawaii; this means that all cash donations will go to Episcopal Relief and Development. Also, people are welcome to write a check; make the check payable to St. Francis and write Hawaii Relief Efforts in the memo line.
This Sunday at the 10:00 am service we will bless all students, teachers, and administrators before they begin their official school year later in the week. All retired teachers are also welcome to be blessed, as are coaches, teacher’s aids, and parents who are looking forward to the school year but dreading science fairs. In other churches they often bless backpacks; I think this is as much about the blessing as it is about alliteration. I will gladly bless backpacks, but as a parent, I also understand that it’s just one more thing to put in the car on an already hectic Sunday morning, and you don’t want it to get lost or scuffed up before the first day of school.

Art camp was daunting but joyful, as well as more taxing than I thought possible; on the first day, I had over 7,000 steps by noon. We had 22 artists that attended over the course of the week, though we never had more than 18 in one day; of those 22, only three were girls, which made for a week of high energy and repeated requests for quiet. Ed and Pat Hinz led the kids through painting a trivet, a cross with flowers, and clay sheep. Margaret Sharpe also taught the kids how to form clay using an understructure, and Claire Erbeznik and I led the rest of the classes. We had a great crew of volunteers, and the kids had a good time. Claire did an amazing job, and is a natural teacher; she was able to keep the artists on task, without ever raising her voice or making veiled threats. She taught me how to meet high energy with low; instead of yelling over everyone to get their attention, and thus raising the energy level, she quietly would say, “Everyone who can hear me, clap once. Everyone who can hear me, clap twice…” It worked. She typically had their attention within half a minute and calmly dissipated the energy. I am looking forward to having art camp again next summer, as well as a two - three-day camp during winter break this year.

  • August 11: Fifth and final day of Art Camp - our young artists once again worked with clay, making mammals of all kinds, and finished the week painting a beautiful beach scene that included all elements of creation (except for bugs); cleaned up after Art Camp; met a parishioner for coffee.

Outreach Scholarship Fund is Now Old Enough to Rent a Car
This Sunday the Outreach Scholarship Fund of St. Francis celebrates 25 years of helping students get to college. At the 10:00AM service we will hear from one of the students that was helped several years ago, who has since earned both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees. She approached one of the people on the scholarship board at the rummage sale to express her thanks, as well as to give a donation to the fund in thanks for all they did for her. After the service we will eat cake and raise our coffee cups in a toast to the good work being done through the scholarship fund.

Nursery & Sunday School families!
Summer Sunday School

While parents and guardians worship, our kids will be thriving, with supervised fun in the fantastic Town and Country playground this summer. Come straight down to the playground at the bottom of the steps. Or ask an Usher to direct you.

The nursery is still available for our tiniest church members. Up to you to decide where your little one(s) would be happiest.

And as ever we always welcome kids in church. No one will shush you. We love to see families and children in our pews!

Weekly Worship
Sundays - Holy Communion
8:00 a.m. - Rite I in-person worship in the Chapel, with hymns. This service is not live-streamed.
10:00 a.m. - Rite II in-person worship in the main church with music. Live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube, and available for watching later.

Following the service we have coffee, tea (or plain, warm water), donut holes and other yummy nibbles. We also have a children's social hour in the St Francis' Garden, to the right of the church. There the kids enjoy juice, water, cookies and fruit. If you're reading this, odds are good you've been to at least one service - or someone surreptitiously gave us your email address. If you have any questions about what we do or why we do it, please don't hesitate to make an appointment with Father Jason, who loves talking about church (also Jesus, his kids and Star Wars, though not always in that order).
Please contact Kristina Pelá to arrange for a Lay Eucharistic Minister to safely bring you communion.
