Dear Friends,
Last weekend the newly elected vestry, the wardens and treasurer and I went away for our fifth vestry retreat since I have become your rector. This year we went to a private home in
Croton-on-Harmon.
There is always a sense of summer camp for adults when we go way. We play games to get to know each other better, we spend time sitting around and talking, this year we prepared our meals together and found ourselves in the kitchen a good deal. It is a chance to form friendships and share in ways that aren't always possible on Sunday mornings.

Our sound system needs your help!
|
|
We've all noticed the intermittent problems with the sound system in the sanctuary. Even with the ringers off, cell phones can still interfere with proper functioning of our sound system.
We ask, therefore, that you please power your cell phone down before the service begins.

Rector's Message Continued
|

The bulk of our time though is spent working. We spend a good deal of time reviewing the work that we accomplished in the last year and talking about goals for the coming year. We prioritize those things that we want to accomplish and then we divide ourselves into teams of vestry members to lead those teams. Those teams take the material that we have discussed and develop goals and objectives that are reviewed by the whole group. Finally, the committee chairs choose membership for their committees to help them achieve those goals.
This year we found ourselves with a new committee and a new task force. Community Engagement is our newest committee. It combines aspects of Newcomers, Communication, and Membership and seeks to reach out beyond the walls of Christ Church to show the community what we are doing. Ideas like wearing Christ Church t-shirts when we work at Clinton Elementary School, making sure that we publicize events on Facebook and Instagram, community potlucks, nametags, and movie nights are some of the ideas that will drive this committee that will be led by Anna de Cordova and Dennis Neal. Planned Giving was held up as a goal for next year and Jeannie Chenette (former warden) will lead this group still to be named.
We spent a good amount of time talking about the possibility of a part-time assistant rector at Christ Church. The vestry is very supportive of adding a second clergy person and is exploring creative ways of funding this position in ways that will have the least impact on the Operating budget. We will continue discussions with Vassar College and the Diocese of New York to understand how this new position may develop.
I want you to know how proud I am to serve with these dedicated men and women. Christ Church is so fortunate to have a diverse, energetic, and committed group to serve in leadership for the coming year. I continue to be humbled to serve as your rector. God has truly blessed us in this place.
In Faith,
Susan+

The cooler temperatures of autumn call for soups and stews. Perennially popular items include beef stew, chicken noodle soup, and vegetable soup.
Please help the Food Pantry clients go green. As stores no longer provide plastic bags, there is now a need for donations of reusable shopping bags.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
