FOUR 1ST WARD PLAYGROUNDS
SELECTED FOR RENOVATION
I am thrilled to announce that Monticello (1814 N. Monticello), Snowberry (1855 W. Huron), Superior (2101 W. Superior) and Western (907 N. Western) playgrounds were selected for renovation. Our communities made a superior case to the Chicago Plays! program, which is run by Friends of the Parks.
The commitment and enthusiasm of our community was clear to the Chicago Park District and Friends of the Parks. Early next year, we will know more specifics on construction dates and playground designs. The playgrounds are anticipated to be completed by July 2014.

PROPERTY TAX WORKSHOP
On Tuesday, August 13, staff from Cook County Assessor Berrios' office will be available at my office to help you appeal your property tax bill. My office has held these workshops annually and helped many people lower their assessment.
This workshop is applicable to those residents in the West Town Township (about 80% of 1st Ward residents). You can find your township by entering your P.I.N. here. Please bring your assessment letter and any previous property tax bills.

BACK TO SCHOOL HEALTH FAIR
My Back-To-School Health Fair will be on August 23, at the same place as last year, Moos School, 1711 N. California, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Last year we gave out just under 1000 backpacks, which were filled with necessary school supplies to 1st Ward kids. This year we expect to do even better. We will also have immunizations, medical and dental screenings, and raffle prizes. Everything is free for all ward residents.
