Dear siblings in Christ,
As summer is turning (more quickly than I anticipated!) into fall, and as students are beginning a new school year and churches often beginning a new program year, I’m thinking about those changes that happen, not just as the months progress, but as the years progress.

Being brave isn’t about having no fear: it is about courage in the face of fear, about learning to step forward into the unknown even when we are afraid. It is about Courageous Faith, our theme for this year.
At this time of change throughout our church and our world, we are called to...

Celebrate Creation Care in Iowa
From September 1 - October 4 many Christians observe “The Season of Creation,” a time to celebrate and highlight work to restore what God has given us in the natural world. The Episcopal Church takes part in this observation, and we want to give thanks in our diocese for what Iowa congregations have done, or are doing, in ministry as stewards of the earth.
| | | | | |
We would love to hear your stories on environmental projects, events, liturgies, you name it, that tend or lift up God’s creation.
Send yours to Rob Hogg at senatorrobhogg@gmail.com. We plan on celebrating these in the newsletter in the next couple of months. No project is too small for us to rejoice over! Photos are welcome as well!
| | | | | |
And mark your calendar for Sept 23rd at 7PM for a Zoom conversation with the Rev. Jenn Latham, formerly of our diocese and now in service in the Diocese of Hawaii.
Jenn has been very involved in Creation Care in Hawaii, and will share some of the projects they have taken up. Register for the Zoom meeting HERE.

Almighty and Everliving God, you bring forth and sustain every living thing; help us grow in compassion and care for the multitude of your creatures, that we may see them not as objects for our use, but as brothers and sisters that sing your never-ending praise. Through Jesus Christ, our Shepherd and guide, who with you and the Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and forever.

You're invited to attend this year's Diocesan Convention!
Diocesan Convention is more than just a business meeting - we seek to deepen our connection as one diocese to transform ourselves, our communities, and the world for Christ. Through worship, intentional connection, and some essential business, we'll spend the weekend "Together in Christ" and have some fun along the way. Whether you attend as a delegate or a visitor, we'll be very glad to have you join us for our 173rd Diocesan Convention this November in Des Moines.
|
Come join in and:
- Be inspired by our Keynote Speaker and Pre-Convention workshop leader: the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Mae Magill
- Connect and build relationships with others from your church and around the diocese
- Ground yourself in worship and spiritual practices
- Learn about our ministry and mission as a diocese
- Serve as a delegate to have a voice and vote in diocesan leadership elections, resolutions, the budget, and more
- Celebrate and dance along with our live DJ to close out the Saturday night banquet (don't worry - no actual dance skills required!)

Certify Your Delegates by Sept. 15
The Clerk, Rector, or Warden of a church fills out the certification form online for their delegates and any visitors they wish to pay for. Certification is different than registration - all individuals attending Convention register themselves.
In case you missed it, all "how-to certify" information can be found HERE.
| | | |
Pre-Convention Hearings
Hearings are an opportunity to learn and ask questions about the budget and resolutions that will be brought to the convention floor. These hearings not only provide valuable time for discussion, but they also help us keep on-floor discussion time during convention to a manageable amount, as many questions can be answered ahead of time during these hearings. All delegates are expected to attend, and everyone is welcome.
Learn more about how to attend HERE.
