For the last five years Katie Gonyaw taught and loved the children of this parish, working with them week after week in their Sunday School classroom. Katie's love of each child was always evident in the ways in which she taught, allowing each child space and time to be themselves as they learned about God's love and what it means to be a Christian in this world. As you all know, Katie retired from this work in June and we already miss her!

We are seeking someone willing to continue what Katie brought to us - to work with our children after church on Sundays from the Sunday after Labor Day to Pentecost. We are ever so grateful to Ashley Bolger and Nicki Morris who have faithfully led the older children each week and are planning to continue that work. What we seek now is someone to work with the younger children (pre-K through 5th grade). If this is something that interests you or would interest someone you know, please be in touch. Thanks to our Feeding Champlain Valley liaisons and to everyone who brought shelf stable food into the Cathedral. In June we donated 49 pounds to our neighbors in need.

Heavenly Parking Tonight

For many years a dedicated and changing crew of parishioners has spearheaded Heavenly Parking at St. Paul's.

What is heavenly parking? For about 20 years volunteers have promoted the CCSP parking lot as the easiest in-and-out spot for access to the July 3rd Burlington waterfront fireworks. Over the years, it has become not only the premier parking spot, but also somewhat of a tradition for many families.

Volunteer staff arrive early afternoon on July 3 to close off the lot with barricades so that we can assure full availability. By 4:00 p.m. we are ready to greet visitors, some of whom have been coming from New York since the initial year. The slow pace from 4-7 p.m. allows greeters, friends and visitors fellowship time with appropriate snacks and beverages. We have filled the lot every year with a mad scramble beginning at about 8 p.m., when folks desperately seeking a spot form a line to get in. Then we really go to work. As darkness spreads, anticipation heightens and the community energy soars, we continue to patrol the entire grounds to assure safety for everyone and the church property. By 9:50, the fireworks are over and those who have parked with us are headed home clearing traffic far before others.

Parking costs $25 per space, payable by cash, check or Venmo. 100% of the proceeds are donated to local outreach ministries. Ice Cream Sunday - A Sweet Summer Tradition

On Sunday July 12th , We’ll celebrate High Summer with an ice-cream-cone-fest after the 10 a.m. service. 

As usual we’ll need at least 12 ½ gallons of ice cream, sherbet, and some lactose-free frozen desserts. Bring your favorites to the narthex kitchen freezer and if we have too much ice cream on the 12th we’ll finish off the treats on the 19th. Besides ice creams, we’ll need boxes of cones – both sugar and waffle, and four or five scooper volunteers. We can provide the scoops. We’ll have coffee and tea as well. Interested in contributing? Reach out to Penny Pillsbury: 802-734-9349 or ppills949@gmail.com.

Mark Your Calendar: Summer Grounds Cleanup Days

There’s something special about serving together.

On Saturday, July 18 and Saturday August 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m., we’ll be working side-by-side to help keep the Cathedral's grounds beautiful and welcoming for our community.

Whether you can stay for one hour or two, your helping hands can make a big difference! Bring your gloves, clippers, yard waste bags, rakes, and a willingness to serve. All ages are welcome, and no special experience is needed.

Seeking Sound System Volunteers

Important behind-the-scenes volunteer opportunity available! The Cathedral's sound system supports worship by producing clear audio throughout the Nave. We are looking for a few volunteers who are willing to learn how to operate the tablet controlling the sound volume in the Nave on Sundays.

This is not a complicated task; it mostly involves muting and unmuting microphones, and adjusting the volume if necessary. We'll offer training for a couple of Sundays until you're comfortable. You can volunteer when you're already planning to be in church. If you'd like to get involved but don't want a public-facing role, this could be for you! Cathedral Arts Presents Music for Food and GMCMF Fellows

Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival Fellows quartets give the final performance of the 2026 summer festival.

In lieu of a ticket purchase, concertgoers should bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Feeding Champlain Valley. This concert is in collaboration with the Music for Food Project. Saturday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral.

July Last Sunday Lunch

We've been having such a good time gathering in fellowship after worship to share a meal. Mark your calendars for the next installment of our Last Sunday Lunches, on Sunday, July 26 directly after worship. The Cathedral provides the food; we'll setup, eat, and cleanup together.

Cathedral Redevelopment Corner

Though its summer and lots of things in our lives have settled into a slower pace, we continue to move forward in our work with Stewardship Realty (SR) and our consulting team. This week we finalized a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) between SR, the Cathedral and Shehadi Associates for the due diligence that Shehadi will do on our behalf. That work will begin next week and will, we hope, be completed by the end of the summer.

This month the Task Force will begin to finalize our counter-proposal for the ground lease agreement with the idea that we will be ready to open negotiations with SR once the due diligence is complete, provided that the report is favorable. We are also exploring other options for the Pearl Street parcel that we hope to have fleshed out by the end of summer.

We will have another coffee hour round table in August where you can bring all your questions! Stay tuned for that date.

Diocese Establishes Rev. Jonathan Ross Family Fund

The Episcopal Diocese of Vermont has launched the Rev. Jonathan Ross Family Fund to support our deacon, the Rev. Jonathan Ross, and his wife Chelsea as they work to recover from a personal tragedy.

On June 13, Jonathan was in a terrible car accident with his two daughters. Jonathan is being treated at the hospital, but his daughters Oliviah and Rylin did not survive the crash. Chelsea, Jonathan’s wife and mother of the girls, was not involved in the accident. As of now, Jonathan is stable but remains in critical condition. He still faces further surgeries and medical care. In addition to these medical costs, the family also faces the cost of burying both of their children.

Donations can be made to the Rev. Jonathan Ross Family Fund on the diocesan website. Additionally, checks may be sent to the diocesan office at 5 Rock Point Road. All checks should be made out to The Episcopal Diocese of Vermont with ‘Rev. Jonathan Ross Family Fund’ on the memo line.

Your gift will go directly to Jonathan and Chelsea minus the electronic processing fee, and no donation is too small.

Please continue praying for Jonathan, Chelsea, and all who love them. And please continue to pray for Oliviah and Rylin, whose lives have been so tragically cut short.
