During the past four years, I have worked hard and learned as much as I can to make Ward Sspomitapi a more welcoming place to call home. I have supported the re-investment in core services such as public transit, snow removal, and improved transit safety by nearly doubling the number of transit peace officers. And by moving more positions from temporary and seasonal to permanent, we have demonstrated the value we place in our civic employees to deliver the programs and services on which we rely.
I have collaborated with my Council colleagues to re-instate the Community Investment Operating Grant (CIOG), increase funding to the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL), and re-allocate funding to provide cultural, nursing and mental health assistance to those fleeing domestic violence. I have brought together organizations to improve park amenities for people to gather and continue to advocate for other groups supporting our community.
But it's not all about spending as I have put forward motions to reduce funding for an unnecessary expansion of the Edmonton Valley Zoo and eliminated the administrative red tape by withdrawing from the Edmonton Metropolitan Regional Transit Commission.
It's been a learning journey and I would be fortunate to earn your vote to continue this work into the next Council term.
