More than 1 out of every 5 students report being bullied. National Bullying Prevention Month is a nationwide campaign founded in 2006 by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center. The campaign is held during the month of October and unites communities around the world to educate and raise awareness of bullying prevention. This campaign has grown from an initial week-long event in 2006, to a worldwide effort with thousands of individuals participating in multiple activities throughout October.

The CSI Foundation is pleased to announce the fall round for Mini Grants and for Professional Development Grants. Up to $3,000 is available for each of these grants and projects are to be completed within a year of the award.
The due date for these grants is midnight Wednesday November 6, 2019
and proposals are to be submitted using the CSI Common Grant Application Form.

- To stimulate creative ideas and activities and their subsequent implementation that result in improved student learning and/or success.
- Please note that applications involving changes to physical structures or land in any way will not be considered without written approval from Spencer Cutler.

I TOTALLY LOVE an article in our October Well Balanced newsletter by WELCOA. Meghma Majmudar talks about moving from super powers to super strength. The part that spoke truth to me was about looking at your personal and professional goals/life through the new lens of knowing your own value and not believing the lie that you are less than. "It takes presence, accountability, and clarity to act with the strength that comes from knowing your val
ue," she says. We are already good enough -- we just need to see and feel that, and put it into practice.
Meghna suggests trying this experiment the next time you're on the way to work. "Think about your superpowers and who inspires you. What would you do or say differently if you were operating from your super strengths and knowing your value? You could save the world."

The single largest massacre of Native persons in U. S. History occurred near Preston, Idaho in 1863.
On a sub-zero winter morning, around 400 Northwestern Band Shoshone men, women and children were slaughtered while camped in their winter home. Their village was burned to the ground, the bodies were left unburied and nothing was written about it for 100 years. The "Indian problem" had been "settled." Crete Brown, PhD, who researched the massacre, and Darren Parry, Chairman of the Northern Band Shoshone, will present compelling information on the massacre, its implications for non-Native people and, the progress the Tribe has made in reclaiming the massacre site, building a Memorial and rewriting this chapter in U.S. history. There will be a power point presentation of Dr. Brown's research on the massacre and its impact on its non-Native participants. She and Chairman Parry will discuss their work in relation to this significant event in Idaho history. There will be time for questions and discussion.
Darren Parry is the Chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation. Darren serves on the Board of Directors for the American West Heritage Center, in Wellsville, Utah, the Utah State Museum board and serves on the Advisory Board of the Huntsman Cancer Institute. In 2017, he received the Esto Perpetua Award, given to the person who preserves and promotes history in the State of Idaho. His passions in life are his family including his Tribal family.
Dr. Brown is of mixed European and Native American descent. Her work represents an integration of transformative learning methods with Indigenous Worldviews as taught by her teacher, Ben Pease of the Crow Nation. She is a long -term social and environmental justice advocate and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice. Her internationally published book, "Unsettling the Bear River Massacre" will be available for purchase.

Interclub Council is the managerial and governing body for student clubs and organizations at CSI. Interclub consists of representatives from all student clubs and organizations on campus. Interclub exists to recognize clubs and organizations, distribute funding to clubs, work as a liaison between a club or organization and Senate, provide a forum to discuss issues, share accomplishments, advertise and solicit assistance with events, and improve communication among clubs and organizations.

The College of Southern Idaho invites all high school students to explore their future as a CSI Eagle during Eagle Exploration Days on October 17, November 14, or March 19. It's never too early to find out if CSI is the right fit for you. These free, one-day campus visits, which are held from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., include a guided tour of campus and housing plus information sessions on activities and opportunities, such as honors, outdoor recreation, career tools, and more. Students will also attend two sessions in the major area of their choice and have access to CSI representatives who will explain how to apply for admission, the financial aid process, and answer any questions students might have. Lunch will be provided for all participants.
Students who wish to experience the beautiful campus and get a preview of what it's like to be a student should RSVP at

Dr. Karali Hunter
is an award-winning pianist and pedagogue based in Phoenix, AZ.
Hunter's reputation as a dynamic, sensitive, and passionate performer has led to solo and chamber
performances across the country and internationally.
Dr. Hunter made her Carnegie Hall debut performance in 2011 after winning first prize in the American Protégé Piano and Strings Competition. She most recently performed Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with the Symphony of the Southwest (2018) and West Valley Symphony (2019).
An active performer, Dr. Hunter is a Founding Artist of the chamber group, Salonnières, performing regularly throughout Arizona and the western United States.
Dr. Hunter holds degrees from BYU, Indiana University: Jacob's School of Music, and a Doctorate Degree from Arizona State University under the direction of Baruch Meir. She teaches gifted young pianists at her studio in Gilbert, AZ, where she lives with her husband and two young boys.

Friday, Oct. 18, 2019 Tickets are on sale for the third performance of the Arts on Tour season, Arcis Saxophone Quartet, which will take place in the CSI Fine Arts Auditorium on
Tuesday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. The program, entitled American Dreams, will feature music by Steve Reich, Dvořák, and Barber's Adagio for Strings, as well as a West Side Story Suite and a Porgy and Bess Suite. Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for students high school & under and are available at
tickets.csi.edu, at the CSI Box Office, or by calling 732-6288.
Munich's Arcis Saxophone Quartet (Claus Hierluksch, soprano saxophone; Ricarda Fuss, alto saxophone Edoardo Zotti, tenor saxophone; and Jure Knez, baritone saxophone) possesses a charismatic and authentic stage presence that sets audiences aflame with their spark-throwing enthusiasm and burning passion for this rare form of chamber music. In their highly professional, exact interpretations, they explore the relationship between individual expressivity and artistic collaboration, captivating listeners with their joy for playing and emotional depth. The resulting effect is far-reaching both sonically and musically, with the saxophone's entire spectrum of colour coming brilliantly to light. After their international debut in the Great Hall of Tchaikovsky Conservatory Moscow and a concert in London's Wigmore Hall, an invitation to play in Berlin Philharmonie in 2017 marked a new milestone in their career.
Follow-up performances of the Arts on Tour season include National Dance Company of Siberia (November 6), Carlene Carter (March 7), We Shall Overcome (March 11), and Yamato - The Drummers of Japan (April 15).

Do you have a story? Would you like to earn $200?
Everyone has a story to share -- something that you can offer to teach, entertain, or inspire the rest of us. We'd like to hear yours! You may be funny; you may be serious; you may be profound. We would like to hear what you have to say -- and we bet that others will, too.
The Twin Falls Rotary Clubs are presenting Bites of Brilliance! On November 6, 2019, we will gather our stories at the Stone House for an evening of appetizers, drinks, and talks.
What we need at the start are a couple of things: a brief completed application and a video recording of your proposed talk. These talks will be reviewed by our committee, and then several of the applicants will be invited to share their talks at Bites of Brilliance on November 6, at the Stone House. Each of the presenters will be given $200. If preferred, we will donate that amount on your behalf to the charity of your choice.
For the final event we will have a sound system, a projector, and an audience. The use of slides, images, or props is permitted (and encouraged).
We ask that talks be limited to 15 minutes or less. We will allow time after each talk for questions, and have scheduled time for mingling and informal interaction with the attendees as well. Your choice of topic is entirely up to you. We would love to hear about unique skills, talents, tales, viewpoints, and life experiences.
You do not need sophisticated video equipment in order to submit an application. After recording the talk on a camera or cellphone, you may:
- Post it to YouTube, Facebook or other online source, and send us the link.
- Send us a CD or flash drive containing the talk.
If you need help recording your talk, please contact us at the number below and we will lend a hand.
The deadline for applying is October 15, 2019. We will notify all of the presenters selected for Bites of Brilliance by October 22.

The CSI Early Childhood Program is sponsoring a "Date Night." This is a time for parents to leave their children in a fun and active environment as they take some time for themselves. All proceeds go to support the Early Childhood Education Program.

Twin Falls Rotary After Hours is hosting a Halloween Haunted Maze from 5:30 - 8 p.m. on October 31, at Canyon Crest to help raise funds and school supplies for children in need in our local school district. The mazes will be kid friendly with some being a little more "scary" than others to appeal to children ages 2-10 years of age. Treats including cookies provided by Canyon Crest will be given at the end of the maze for a fun safe warmer alternative to trick or treating outdoors. Admission: $3/person OR one item/person from the list below.
Twin Falls Rotary After Hours goal this year is to raise awareness of the challenges our school teachers and district face and contribute what we can to alleviate the stress faced by teachers and the students families.
Schools in Twin Falls provide items and services to children that are less fortunate than others. Common items include hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brushes, deodorant, etc. As well as detergent for the schools that have washing machines/dryers to allow students to wash their few items of clothing as they do not have these luxuries at home. Additionally some schools are now limited to one educational field trip a year as these funds can no longer be provided by the students families due to financial hardship and legal reasons.
These are items that are above and beyond standard school supplies which ALSO are in great need. Twin Falls Rotary After Hours will be doing various fund raisers throughout the year to help accumulate these types of products so teachers are not spending their own funds.
This years biggest need items are:

It is time to turn October in Rocktober with a Halloween twist. The family friendly show serves up music of the season choreographed to fun visuals beginning Tuesday, October 1.
Audiences can indulge themselves in songs that include: This is Halloween, I Put a Spell On You, Somebody's Watching Me, Night on Bald Mountain, Ghostbusters, Superstition, Bad Moon Rising, Spirit in the Sky, Monster Mash, and Thriller. While your ears feast on these tunes, your eyes will dine on the choreographed visuals filling the planetarium's 50-foot dome. Wrapped in sound and light you will catch the spirit of the season in no time.
The Ooky Spooky Light Show
will run at the following times through October 12:
- Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
- Fridays at 7 and 8 p.m.
- Saturdays at 2:30 and 8 p.m.
The show schedule expands starting Tuesday, October 15, and will run at the following times through October 29:
- Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
- Fridays at 7, 8, and 9 p.m.
- Saturdays at 2:30, 4:30, 8, and 9 p.m.
Admission prices to planetarium shows are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for students (including CSI students with a valid student ID), and children two and under are free. For more information, including a show trailer, visit the Herrett Center's web page at http://herrett.csi.edu.
