WOWApply For a Booth at the CSI Week of Welcome Community Fair
The CSI Program Board will be holding their annual WOW (Week of Welcome) Community Fair. This is a campus-wide event that takes place each fall semester. We want students to focus on having fun, socializing, networking, receiving free stuff, and getting exposure to student life opportunities. This is your chance to brag about your department or showcase student involvement or leadership opportunities through clubs and organizations tied to your department.

This is also a vendor fair, with the purpose of fostering a relationship between the College of Southern Idaho and the Twin Falls community. Businesses and community agencies who participate are going to have free giveaways, information about their services, and a fun environment for students, faculty and staff to learn more about services that are in the Twin Falls community.

We look forward to your participation in this event which is held on  Wednesday, August 23, from 11 am to 1 pm.   Below is a link to the application you need to fill out and return to make sure you are on our list of participants.

What will a booth at the WOW Community Fair do for you?
- You will be able to connect with CSI students.
- You will be able to distribute information about your department/organization.
- You will be able to see what other departments have going on around campus.

Booth Space:

Booth spaces are furnished with a table and two chairs, unless noted otherwise. A limited number of spots with electricity are available and reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. To help entice people your way maybe a giveaway or sweet treat at your booth will help.

This event is sponsored by CSI's Program Board in the Office of Student Affairs.

P.S. If you know of a business that is interested in participating in this please let me know as their application is a bit different.

ISBDCISBDC to Hold Technology Funding Workshops in Six Idaho Cities

SBDC NEWS RELEASE / July 19, 2017

IDAHO SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTERS TO HOLD TECHNOLOGY FUNDING WORKSHOPS IN SIX IDAHO CITIES

The Idaho Small Business Development Center (SBDC), headquartered in the College of Business and Economics at Boise State University, is teaming up with the Idaho National Laboratory and the Idaho Department of Commerce to hold a series of small business funding workshops across Idaho. The Idaho Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) road tour will highlight state and national grant programs, as well as local business resources for Idaho's technology entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Researchers and small technology firms can learn how to access $2.5 billion in grants through the SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. These programs, funded through the Small Business Administration, encourage domestic small businesses to engage in high-growth research and development with potential for commercialization in the market.

Attendees also will learn about nearly $1 million in commercialization grants available annually to Idaho companies through the Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) program. Through IGEM, the Idaho Department of Commerce funds commercialization research where business experts collaborate with university researchers to bring viable technologies to market.

Participants also will hear about collaborating with Idaho National Laboratory to discover innovative nuclear and clean energy solutions and critical infrastructure. Finally, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about opportunities to connect with the Department of Energy's SBIR program to advance research and development.

Local representatives from the Department of Labor, Economic Development organizations and Idaho State University also will be available for one-on-one meetings to discuss local resources and business funding opportunities for research and development.

The road tour will stop in six locations around the state:
  • Salmon: Aug. 1
  • Idaho Falls: Aug. 14
  • Pocatello: Aug. 15
  • Twin Falls: Aug. 29
  • Lewiston: Oct. 19
  • Coeur D'Alene: Oct. 20
Entrepreneurs and small business owners can register to attend at idahosbdc.org/roadtour . For more information, contact Idaho SBDC's SBIR program manager, Dave McEwen, at [email protected] .

West Nile Virus Update for the Magic Valley

TWIN FALLS- After confirming West Nile Virus positive mosquito pools in Gooding County last week, South Central Public Health District (SCPHD) and the Twin Falls County Pest Abatement District (TFCPAD) can now confirm that mosquitoes in Twin Falls County have also tested positive for West Nile Virus.

"It is safe to say that West Nile Virus could be found anywhere in the Magic Valley at this point, and people should try to avoid mosquitoes and eliminate their habitat," says Kirk Tubbs, TFCPAD Manager.
No human or animal cases have been reported at this time.

SCPHD reminds individuals to protect themselves and their families from mosquito bites:

DRAIN any standing water on your property that may produce mosquitoes.
AVOID the outdoors at dawn and dusk.
DRESS appropriately by wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors.
DEFEND yourself by using a mosquito repellent containing an EPA-registered active ingredient, such as DEET (follow label directions).
MAKE SURE door and window screens are in good condition to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.

For more information on West Nile Virus, visit SCPHD's website at phd5.idaho.gov. For more information on positive pools visit the TFCPAD website at http://tfcpad.org/.
