RoadBe Aware of the North College Road Closure

A portion of North College Road between the Expo Center and the Health Science and Human Services building will be closed until about March 15 for road construction. If you regularly use North College Road and you come from the direction of Washington Street, you will still be able to access the entrance to the Herrett Center and HSHS building. However, North College Road will be closed to westbound traffic at Fillmore street. Traffic will be allowed to access the Expo parking lot but all Expo visitors will need to exit back onto North College. You will not be allowed to drive south on Frontier Road toward the Child Care Center or Boys and Girls Club. Frontier Road will be opened all the way to the Expo Center only for large events . In the meantime, if you want to access Frontier Road to the Boys and Girls Club or Child Care Center, you must do so only from Falls Avenue. The closures will remain in effect until construction crews install a new bridge over the Perrine Coulee and create an intersection for North College and the Cheney Road bypass. When North College Road re-opens in mid-March, work will continue to extend Cheney Road to Washington Street. That portion of the project is expected to be finished this summer.

CanvasCanvas Training Sessions During In-service
All sessions are scheduled in Library 101.

PLEASE NOTE - Blackboard will be turned off at the end of the Summer 2016 semester. ALL Blackboard courses must be transitioned to Canvas before the start of Fall 2016. Faculty are encouraged to begin using Canvas as much as possible for their Spring 2016 courses.

It is suggested to come to on e of the Orientation sessions first. This will make the course building process more efficient.

1. "Canvas Orientation - Learn the Basics" - Canvas is the new LMS that is replacing Blackboard. This hands-on training session provides a general overview of program features, dynamic tools, and functionality that allow you to build and maintain engaging online courses. You will learn the basics of how to structure your course using pages and modules, how to transfer content from your existing Blackboard course, or build the course from scratch."

    • Tuesday, Jan 12, 10 am-noon

2. "Canvas Walk-in Workshop - Build you Canvas Course with Confidence" - During this walk-in workshop, you can work on building your course in Canvas and take advantage of one-on-one assistance from IT staff and faculty that are already using Canvas. We recommend you attend the Canvas Orientation first. Please bring or have online access to all the instructional materials needed for your course (syllabus, files, assignments, etc.). "

    • Tuesday, Jan 12, 2 pm - 4 pm
    • Thursday, Jan 14, 2 pm - 4 pm

3. To better accommodate Adjunct Faculty's needs, we've also scheduled an evening Canvas training session. This session will have an orientation component as well as hands-on opportunities.

    • Wednesday, Jan 13, 6 pm - 9 pm
Instructors, who are teaching Spring 2016 courses, can access the CSI Canvas site at: csi.instructure.com   (no www.) All Spring 2016 courses have been created along with a Sandbox course for each faculty. At this point, courses are blank. Instructors have to populate the courses with the content.

BowlsYou're Invited: Paint Pottery for Empty Bowls Fundraiser
Paint bowls FREE at  Hands On through February 2nd thanks to CSI Wellness Program.

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger and was created by The Imagine Render Group. The basic premise is simple: Potters and other craftspeople, educators and others work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is donated to an organization working to end hunger and food insecurity.

Hands On is proud to announce this is the seventh year they are participating in the Empty Bowls event. You can get involved by painting a bowl to donate to the dinner. Simply stop in to the Hands On studio and choose a bowl to paint. Bowls range from $8 - $12. The studio and glazing fees will be waived for anyone that paints a bowl to donate. The goal is 300 bowls for this year's event.

The Wellness Program is pleased to offer you and a family member the opportunity to create a bowl for this charity event. We will cover the cost to participate with costs for additional family or friends to be incurred by you. Please identify yourself as a CSI employee and your first two bowls are FREE to you. This is a great opportunity to engage your creative side and spend quality time with a significant other or other family member. Just remember, you leave your creation behind to donate to the event.

Feel free to drop in to select and paint a bowl now through February 2nd. Times available are:

Mon-Sat 10 am-7 pm
Sun 12-5 pm
