"Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching."

Head of School's Reflection

Dear Redeemer Community,

Educators today wear many hats, requiring expertise and training in a variety of skillsets. This year alone, our faculty has collectively spent over 435 hours in professional training, with additional hours planned for the remainder of the year. The teachers at Redeemer are dedicated to providing our students with a well-rounded, developmentally appropriate education backed by the latest research. Our professional development spans topics related to curriculum, child development, special needs, professionalism, communication, social-emotional learning, community development, and health, safety and nutrition. Click here for a full list of our training this year.

In addition to staying up to date on the latest research in education, our faculty are also trained in emergency response. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community are among our highest priorities. At Redeemer we have a very thorough emergency disaster and preparedness plan, and we regularly practice safety drills with our students. Yesterday, our faculty arrived early to practice an intruder/active shooter drill prior to our students’ arrival. While we pray we never have to activate emergency responses, the faculty are well-versed and trained to respond to a variety of situations.

For so many reasons our students are in excellent hands with the Redeemer teachers and staff. Our faculty is to be commended for their incredible dedication to a demanding profession that has evolved a great deal.

Thank you, Redeemer faculty and staff, for your continued commitment to education and our students!

Best regards,

Mary

What's happening in the classrooms?

The 3s with Mrs. Baker, Miss Carroll, Mrs. Schroeder & Mrs. Wittstadt

The threes classes have been spending lots of time together and really enjoyed learning about the author Mo Willems. We shared a special snack and the students got to draw their own Pigeon character following the detailed instructions from the author. We voted and tallied about whether or not Pigeon should be allowed to drive the Bus! There may be future authors and/or illustrators right here in our classrooms! Spending time together helps us reinforce what it means to be a friend. We continue to practice waiting our turn, sharing, helping out when needed, saying kind words, and being safe. It has been a delight watching the threes master the swings and tricycles, dig for buried treasure in the sandboxes, or play an imaginative game in the open spaces. Before we leave for spring break we are looking forward to learning about our various communities from our individual classrooms and the entire Redeemer Parish Day School to the bigger Baltimore and Maryland communities that we are all a part of. Upon our return to school, there will be plenty of opportunities for us to observe changes all around us. We will be on the lookout for signs of spring and the children will use their five senses to learn all about this wonderful season. We will be incorporating counting and measuring with seeds and flowers. There will be lots of opportunities during process art to use ALL the colors in the rainbow. It was nice to see so many of you at conference day. Have a Wonderful spring break!

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Our shortest month may have been our busiest yet! In February classes took part in many activities and projects to celebrate Black History Month and the incredible people who have taught us that we can change the world! We enjoyed a fabulous gathering of our community and some healthy competition when we gathered for Galentine's Bingo! Thank you to Helena Ilardo, Maggie Morton, and Maggie Rodgers for putting together and festive and fun evening. Our budding second grade architects culminated an architecture unit by creating their own mini city. Their creativity and skills are astounding! We also found ourselves to be 100 days smarter this month when we celebrated the 100th Day of School! The school was full of energy, and our kindergarten and pre-first classes sported handmade 100's Day t-shirts. On February 14 we celebrated lots of love for Valentine's Day and a time of renewal that comes with Ash Wednesday. Third graders had a busy month presenting 3rd Grade Speeches to their 1st and 2nd grade friends. They explored topics like becoming an NBA player, preventing pollution, and proposals for the Redeemer playground. We will not be having ponies any time soon! Third grade also showcased their scientific knowledge at our first annual Science Expo when they performed experiments and further shared their knowledge through their writing and artwork. The preschool division was excited to welcome baby chicks from parent and presenter, Julianne Fiastro! Finally, even though we only get to celebrate it once a year, the school was full of fun activities related to Leap Year. Thank you to our first graders for leading the excitement on this very special day! Hoppy Leap Year! After all that, we will be ready for a break - Spring Break, that is!
