"Children are one third of our population and all of our future!"

Letter from the Director

Dear Redeemer Community,

As I reflect on this past year, there is so much to digest, but it is the everyday moments that mean the most.

  • The genuineness of a two-year old as he sings, “This Little Light of Mine”, in chapel

  • A four-year-old bursting with pride as she makes it across the monkey bars for the first time

  • The delight on a seven-year old’s face as he meets his Govans’ buddy for the first time

  • A five-year old’s wonder as he discovers the power of reading

  • The zeal of a six-year-old as she dresses in her Team Marvel costume

  • A three-year old’s intensity as he translates the thoughts in his head to paint on an easel

  • A teacher gently holding her student’s hand

Schools have been through a lot these past three years. It can be easy to forget that the ordinary is extraordinary. It is the joy of those moments that I hope we all remember the most!

Happy Summer!

Warm regards,

Mary

Reminders and Updates:

Thank you parents, Parent Council & PC Co-chairs!

We are so thankful to Helena Illardo and Ashley Decker, PC Co-chairs, for their dedication and support this year. In a time that continued to present challenges, they provided new and exciting events, along with time-honored traditions. Thank you also to the many parents who partnered with them and supported our school. We are so grateful!

With gratitude to PDS Advisory Board Members

After three years of dedicated service, Chris Dew, Sarah Marinacci, and Matt Nuzzi, in addition to Karen Blair, the faculty representative, have completed terms on the PDS Advisory Boar. We are so grateful for their time and insight, especially during the challenges of COVID and the excitement of our expansion.

Faculty Milestones

Redeemer is blessed to have a team of teachers and staff who are talented, dedicated, and nurturing educators. Each year we acknowledge those that have completed milestone years of employment. Chapel with Mother O

As the school year winds down, in chapel we look ahead to Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit came down from heaven and Jesus’s friends were sent out to share God’s love with the world. A very exciting day! Today in chapel we told the story of the Ascension – when Jesus went up into heaven to be with God – and sang “This Little Light of Mine.” We remembered that even though we do not see Jesus every day, he is with us in the people we meet and in the light of Christ that each of us carries. Remembering the light that each person carries, and how that means we should treat each other with love and care, feels especially important in the wake of the school shooting in Uvalde, TX. We did not directly address the shooting, but we prayed for all children at school, their teachers and families, and everyone who may be sad today. If you, your children, or your family would like to talk or pray about recent events of mass violence, please give me a call or send me an email: 443-571-2736 or rogus@redeemerbaltimore.org

Program Highlights

Redeemer continues to find fun and joy in May! We were thrilled to gather together for Cinco de Bingo! It was a fun-filled night full of prizes, camaraderie, and some fun competition. Thank you to Megan Nee and Margee Sullivan for organizing the event. Our parents treated us a fun-filled Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you, parents! Our first graders stunned us with their incredible performance of Lion King, Kids! Our budding actors were guided by the talented Katie Poe, Annette Bednez, and Erin Hoover. The PE classes were treated to a special program through Little Lacrosse Academy. Thank you to Cat Thoreson for spending the morning with our students! The annual Pre-first & Kindergarten Publishing Party was a huge hit! Our student authors and illustrators spent the year learning about the writing process. Their efforts were met with huge accolades at their book launches. They and their teachers (Jen Barta, Aimee Cummings, Judi Smith & Jenny Vandenberg) should be so proud of all they have accomplished! Our Pre-k entomologists have been taking care of caterpillars over the past few weeks and were thrilled to watch their metamorphosis and release them to their new homes. Our first graders were thrilled to travel by bus to meet their Govans friends in person for a play date, scavenger hunt, and special snack. Click here to watch our video: "Govans & Redeemer: You've Got a Friend". It was a magical morning! They also culminated their yearlong studies of world cultures with a visit from Joaquin's mom who is from Columbia. She taught them about Columbia's culture, food, and bio-diversity. Finally, we celebrated an incredible 70th Birthday Bash! It was a night to remember. Thank you to Ashley Decker, Helena Illardo, Jess Kallaugher, Maggie Morton, and their many volunteers. It was the perfect way to celebrate such a momentous occasion!
