The Sky's the Limit!

Letter from the Director

Dear Redeemer Community,

When I was a little girl, about the age of our PDS students, I had pajamas with a picture of red-headed toddler dressed in a spacesuit and a slogan that said, “I can be anything I want!” I wore those PJs until they were threadbare, and they stuck in my memory for two reasons. One, I loved that the little girl had red hair. That was pretty rare to see on much of anything back then. Two, I truly believed I would be an astronaut because my pajamas said I could.

Last Thursday I woke up with a grateful and hopeful heart. Our first female Vice President had just been inaugurated, and our faculty would begin receiving vaccines to fight COVID, both reminders that truly anything is possible.

As you all know, I did not become an astronaut – at least not yet! But I carried that message with me my whole life, and it is worth passing along to our students. We do not know what is on the horizon, and we may not even be able to conceive what our children might be called to do. What we do know, is that it is our job to encourage them to follow their passions since the sky’s the limit!

Office Notes & Reminders

Reminders and Updates - PLEASE READ:

Enrollment Contracts:

Enrollment contracts for the 21.22 school year are due on Friday, February 5th. Please return them via the car line or email. If you do not plan to re-enroll your child, please notify the office. We have many families on the waiting list who are eager to learn of openings.

Temperature Screenings:

The low outdoor temperatures are creating low reads for many of our students' temperatures. As a precaution, please take your child's temperature before leaving for school.

Summer Play & Grow Camp:

Play and Grow Camp is BACK this summer at Redeemer. Children, ages 2-6 are welcome. Camp will look a little different this year, but we will still provide the same creativity, growth, play and imagination. Registration will open at the end of February. Please visit our website for details. We look forward to a summer filled with friendships, fun, excitement, and exploration.

What's happening in the classrooms?

Enrichment with Mrs. Craig

This week enrichment classes have been all about snow! The threes classes made snow flakes from shapes cut out of paper they painted collaboratively last week. PreK, Kindergarten, and Pre-first drew beautiful snowflakes with pastels after observing microscopic photographs of these frosty crystals. All the classes enjoyed the effervescent bubbling of our “snowstorm in a jar”, the magic of instant snow powder, and cutting snowflakes out of folded paper. The dusting of snow on our campus and our beautiful creations combined to make a winter wonderland!

Program Highlights!

January continues to be filled with lots of learning and fun! We cheered on our Ravens with Purple Fridays, and even though they didn't make it to the AFC Championship, we loved watching them play! We also celebrated two members of our church staff. Barb Hart, the administrative assistant, who is always looking out for us in the Day School, celebrated her 25th year at Redeemer this month. We are touched by her kindness and dedication to our community. Our PDS Chaplain, Rebecca Ogus, was ordained on January 6. We are so grateful for her presence, spiritual leadership, and enthusiasm with our chapel program. Finally, our faculty is grateful for the gift of the vaccine. Over the past two weeks our PDS staff received our first shots!
