Spotlight on Excellence: Meet Our Specialists!
|
In this edition, we’re highlighting specialist advice you’ll find on eConsult. From Obstetric Medicine to Public Health and more, eConsult is a valuable solution that connects you and your patients to Specialists across the province for timely access to their advice.
Dr. Gundy and Dr. Galange are available on eConsult. Learn more below and send them an eConsult, today!

|
Dr. Serena Gundy is an Associate Professor at McMaster University and an Obstetric Medicine Physician. Her practice is focused on the medical care of people planning pregnancy with preexisting medical conditions, providing guidance and management within pregnancy and into the postpartum period.
|
Ask Dr. Gundy about:
- Medication optimization and review
- Pregnancy risk assessment and mitigation for chronic diseases (such as preexisting hypertension, neurologic gastrointestinal, inflammatory or autoimmune disorders)
- The management and investigation of new symptoms or laboratory findings arising within pregnancy, avoiding additional visits and travel, which reduces barriers to care
| |
|
Dr. Gundy also has a particular interest in short and long term cardiovascular follow-up of people who have developed hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), such as gestational hypertension or pre-eclampsia. These patients are at increased risk of developing chronic hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia within the first decade postpartum even after the pregnancy associated aspects have resolved. She will provide very explicit recommendations for follow up, screening, and risk factor optimization to reduce the risk of future cardiovascular disease in addition to risk assessment for future pregnancies.
Dr. Gundy welcomes any eConsults from primary care or subspecialty providers specifically around a patient history of HDP, even if the pregnancy is remote or the patient is not planning subsequent pregnancy.
