Shabbos Chanukah
Rosh Chodesh Tevet
December 7-8, 2018
Shalom and hello everyone! I hope you are doing well.

Join us this auspicious Shabbos Chanukah and Rosh Chodesh Teves for festive davening and mouth watering food!

Enjoy a heartwarming Hallel from our very own Chazan Heshy Broyde and chulent and sufganiyot at this week’s delicious kiddush.
Did you know we read from three sifrei Torah this shabbos morning?! We will iy”h read the parsha hashavuah, rosh chodesh leining and then a special chanukah reading. Come early and celebrate with us!
Thanks to our SOLD OUT capacity crowd last Friday night at our annual pre chanukah dinner - we had an amazing time!

Zemiros with Max Edelkopf , comedy with not one , not two , but three comedians! Burnie Burns, Bob Greenberg, and Mike Fine put on a terrific show that was both heartwarming and entertaining.

In addition to his “act,” legendary comic Burnie Burns spoke movingly about his difficult childhood, his experiences being a child actor, the many years in the entertainment business, and how he admires the religious tenacity and success of orthodox Jews and how he yearns to grow and develop as a frum practicing Jew.

What a beautiful kiddush Hashem. We look forward to more of the same in the very near future!

Thank you to our gracious co sponsors, Micah Bloomfield and Paul Glazer , for endowing this week’s gala hot kiddush in honor of my daily Daf Yomi Shiur , of which they are proud participants.

Yasher koach and may both of you continue to grow in Torah knowledge!

It is with great joy we wish mazel tov to members Ken and Marcie Cappell upon the engagement of their dear son, Jamie , to Lizzy Schlesinger , of Los Angeles!

May Ken and Marcie see much nachas from the new couple and all their lovely children and may Jamie and Lizzy build a bayis ne’eman b’yisroel! Amen.

We say in the al hanisim tefilah, “v’hidliku neiros b’chatzros kadshecha,” and they kindled lights in your holy courtyard.

But wasn’t the menorah in the heichal , the inner sanctum, and not the courtyard? Also, why use the plural neiros ? Should it not simply say ner , as in ner chanukah !

Obviously, the term chatzros refers to the entire bais hamikdash.

We can suggest that the greatest expression of thanksgiving man can offer G-d is through the bais hamikdash and the seder avodah, ritual service, which included the (animal) sacrifices associated with gratitude: menachos, todah, shlamim, etc.
As we say in hallel, “How can I repay Hashem for all the kindness He bestows upon me… to You I will offer sacrifices of todah, thanksgiving!”

When the chashmonaim reclaimed the bais hamikdash, they lit not only the menorah but the fires (there were two) of the outer mizba’ach , alter located in the Temple courtyard, reinstating the purest form of expressing gratitude known to man.

May we merit to see the third beis hamikdash rebuilt speedily in our days, the return of seder avodah, and a bring korban todah b’mheirah b’yameinu ! Amen.

Have a wonderful shabbos chanukah!

See you in shul,

Rabbi Aaron D. Mehlman
