September 2, 2021
Thank you for a terrific start to the school year! We continue to make positive progress each day, and we could not be happier with where we are as we head into the Labor Day weekend. The cast for our one act play competition has been selected and I am excited to see their work on stage. Our volleyball team is an impressive 20-1. Cross country is off and running and we have already had Spartans win meets. Football traveled to North Carolina last week and beat Charlotte Country Day 33-9. At the same time, we have several seniors who have already earned college acceptances for the fall of 2022. Our youngest Spartans are engaged and happy and enjoying fall enrichment classes including karate, archery, art, and dance. It has been fun seeing our fourth graders opening car doors in the mornings and after school.

We have had three students test positive for COVID-19, since this school year started. Not bad considering the richness of our program and completing 13 days of school. We know that there will be more, but we feel fortunate to have such low numbers as this fourth surge continues to move at a quick pace, with Georgia setting a new high for positive cases earlier this week. Please continue to make healthy choices, especially over the long weekend. We want to return to a healthy and fully engaged campus on Tuesday. Please continue to stay home if not well, mask indoors on our campus and follow other guidelines as outlined by the CDC and DPH. I have found the Georgia DPH site to be a good source of informationRead more.

We all know the names Simone Biles, Michael Phelps, and Naomi Osaka, but probably few of us know the name Jessica Long.
Recruiting assemblies introduce Lower School students in third and fourth grades to the orchestral stringed instruments – violin, viola, cello, and double bass (grade 4).
We’re off to a great start to the 2021-22 athletic school year! The various fall sports teams have become accustomed to the daily expectations of practices or contests.
Hello from the College Counseling office! Many of our seniors have already begun applying to colleges... several of our students have already received admissions offers!
Athens Academy is excited to participate in this year's Synovus "Spread the Love" Campaign benefiting Food to Kids and the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. For the entire month of September, Athens Academy will be in a friendly competition with Prince Avenue Christian School to collect peanut butter (or PB alternatives) and jelly. The winning school will be awarded $2,500 while the second place school receives $500. The next time you're grocery shopping, be sure to add some extra peanut butters (or PB alternatives) and jellies IN PLASTIC CONTAINERS. Students can start bringing in items this week. It's time for us to Spread the Love! Questions? Email Brian Olson.

Athens Academy is pleased to offer on-campus private instruction in band and orchestral stringed instruments this fall. Students will meet once a week for ten weeks for a 30-minute private lesson. The ten-week fee is $400 for the private sessions. Lessons will run from the week of September 13 through the week of November 15. Click here for registration information. Questions? If your child has outgrown those uniforms from last year, now is a great time to clean out your closets and help the PSO at the same time! We are in need of gently used uniforms and accessories in all sizes but especially smaller boys' and girls' sizes. Drop them off in the Sinkwich Spartan Center, the Chambers Center, or in the Lower or Middle School offices. Questions? Email Sarah Gilbert. THANK YOU!

Throughout this school year, the artwork of various Athens Academy faculty and staff will be on display in one of the glass cases in the Bertelsmann Lobby. For the month of September, you can enjoy the mixed media creations of Drama Department Chair Lorraine Thompson: "Collage/mixed media have been my focus for the past five years or so. My studio floor I covered in little pieces of scrap paper!" Be sure to stop by the Bertelsmann Lobby to see Mrs. T's beautiful work, and check the eSpartan for future faculty/staff artists!
