Thank you! I am so happy with the start of our school year for our students in Preschool through Upper School. I have heard time and time again that this has been an awesome start to the year from colleagues, parents and students. None of us takes this for granted, and we are enjoying the energy and positive spirit. Children need boundaries and structure, and we spend a lot of time on expectations, accountability, age-appropriate discipline, and communication. I think this is a contributing factor to our early successes. It was awesome to see so many of our parents gather earlier this week for a positive parenting workshop led by therapist Leigh Ellen Magness. We are here to learn and grow with one another and create the best possible community for our young people. You too can help reinforce the importance of being kind and taking care of one another at home.  Read more.

This month, I am excited to share about our Morning Meeting time!

Play. When we think about playing, what comes to our mind?

I may have started my own small tradition accidentally this year, or at least I’ve done something that I don’t think the students will accept my stopping.

Building Blocks of Success: Helping Athens Academy Students Develop Executive Functioning Skills

In support of Diaper Need Awareness Week, Athens Academy is working with the Athens Area Diaper Bank to collect diapers for children in need in our area.  We hope you will consider donating diapers of any size or quantity (open boxes or packs are accepted) any time next week. We will stack towers of donations in each grade level with a goal of filling up a whole bus! Questions? Email Natalie Luke. Thank you for your support!

Photo retakes will be available the morning of Wednesday, September 28, in the Lower School Discovery Center. Parents of students in grades K3-8 should notify their division office if they wish for their child to have a retake made. Upper School students can drop in any time between 7:45-10:45 a.m. Questions? Please contact Bentley Photography by email or at 770-867-2853.

As a service to our community, we have partnered with a local pharmacy to offer on-campus flu vaccination clinics on Friday, September 30, and Thursday, October 6, in the Chambers Center boardroom. You can sign up directly with the pharmacy by clicking here. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to submit the consent form, enter your insurance information, and cancel your appointment if needed. More details:

  • Please fill out a consent form for each person getting vaccinated (the pharmacy’s form is secure and HIPAA-compliant).
  • Available for ages 3 and up. Ages 3-12 must have a guardian present.
  • If you are planning to send your 13-17 year old student to the clinic unaccompanied, you must fill out the consent form within 72 hours of the appointment even if it was already filled out at registration.
  • Any insurance or self-pay accepted. Please bring your insurance card with you to your appointment.
