Clarification: Grandparents’ Day is a Freshman/New Student Only Event

Grandparents' Day is now an event for freshmen and new families only due to our inability to host an event of this size for more than one class. As the event grew in popularity, it became clear that we could no longer safely accommodate grandparents from both the freshman and senior classes. We recognize how special this event is to our families, and by waiting until this year to make the change, we were able to offer each class the opportunity to have one Grandparents' Day during their time here at St. Pius X. The safety of our students and their guests is a top priority, and we thank you for your understanding as we make this necessary change.

"The Mental Game" Speaker Assembly

Friday, September 6 at 10:00 a.m.

The Home & School Association is sponsoring a guest speaker for a student assembly on Friday, September 6, at 10:00 a.m. Students will hear from Brandon Saho of "The Mental Game" podcast. Brandon is a former sports reporter who shares his inspiring journey through the challenge of depression and his fight to break the stigma around mental health. The assembly will last approximately an hour, and parents are encouraged to attend.

The Mental Game Podcast

Starting or returning to high school after a summer break can be a challenging time for students. The shift from the relaxed pace of summer to the structured routine of school life requires not only physical adjustment but also mental resilience. New school policies, classes, and homework can add to the stress, making it important for parents and guardians to provide the right support.

This article aims to empower you with practical strategies to support your student’s mental health as they navigate the start of the school year and beyond. By understanding the challenges they face and offering the right guidance, you can help make this transition smoother and more positive for your high schooler.

REMINDERS

Clinic Reminders:

  • If your student has an allergy, asthma, or other condition that requires medication (EpiPen, Auvi-Q, Benadryl, etc.), please make sure to submit the completed action plan and medication forms to the clinic along with the medication. This is necessary so that we can be prepared for any medical emergency that comes up.
  • Any student who turns 16 must have an updated 3231 Immunization Form on file showing that they received their 2nd dose of the MCV vaccine. This should be done in the month after the student turns 16.

Please call the clinic with questions (404-636-3023, ext 248) or email mpetersen@spx.org.

The Counseling office is excited to offer a college case studies workshop. Students and parents will review student applications and decide whether or not a student should receive admission to a specific university. Students and parents will be split up into small groups and will participate in a mock admissions committee meeting with college admissions people. This exercise helps students and parents understand what goes on behind the scenes in the application review process.
