Student Reflection on Working: A Musical

This fall, I am blessed with the opportunity to perform with Theater TC in Working: A Musical. And though still in the rehearsal process, the production has become one of the most impactful experiences of my theater journey.

Through the stories of a housewife, a teacher, a project manager, and many others, this show reminds us that behind every job is a person, and behind every person is a story worth telling. I have the privilege of portraying the Waitress, a character whose story highlights the patience and dedication behind everyday work. Through this role, I have come to appreciate the people who spend their days caring for others, often without ever being asked how they are doing themselves. We interact with countless people throughout our lives without knowing the dreams they have put aside, the hardships they carry, or the sacrifices they make for the people they love. Working reminds us that individuals are not solely defined by their occupation, and no one's story is too insignificant to tell. As performers, we have the opportunity to give a voice to the people we too often overlook.

I am deeply grateful to Theater TC and my castmates for bringing these stories to life, and I hope our audiences leave remembering that every person they encounter is living a life just as complex and meaningful as their own.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT

Marine Science Students Take a Hands-On

Field Trip

After spending the last few weeks studying seagrass and mangroves, the Marine Science classes visited Tampa Bay Watch to explore these habitats.

The students used a seine net and hand nets to catch and examine a wide assortment of microfauna including sea stars, a juvenile speckled trout, a dwarf seahorse, puffer fish, a horseshoe crab, spider crabs, shrimp, pinfish, and tunicates. Some manatees and dolphins even stopped by to join in on the action! Students also learned about water quality in the Tampa Bay estuary, and learned how to test various water quality parameters.

Congratulations, Vertino Scholarship Recipients!

Congratulations to Alina

Rosado ‘29 and Levi Barrett ‘29 on receiving the Justin

Vertino ‘14 Heart of a Crusader Scholarship.

Justin Vertino graduated in 2014 and was an exceptional student-athlete. During his time at TC, he made a tremendous impact on the faculty, staff, coaches, and other students he encountered.

In his honor, the Vertino family established this scholarship following his passing. His legacy lives on through each Crusader to be awarded the scholarship as they embody the ideals and character traits of someone who brings light to the TC community, just as Justin did.
