Words of Inspiration

"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our "God is a consuming fire."

Celebrating The Season With A Fall Festival

What fun! As we make our way into autumn, we celebrate the harvest and the change of seasons. Our Preschool and pre-K students enjoyed some late October fun with a fall festival on Wednesday!

Check out those pumpkins! Colorful! Of course, there were treats to savor and plenty of fun activities.

Mrs. Fair's Fiesta

Mrs. Fair's Spanish class was festive last week, complete with food and fun games. Our roving camera caught a glimpse of Mrs. Scaglione's first graders putting a colorful bow on the school year's first quarter.

The students shared their favorite snacks and Mrs. Fair broke out the sombreros. She also had the kids playing a game with five dice per student and they would try to "threezees," "fivesees," and so on.

Look at those smiles. The festive headwear suits the kids well.

Grace Christian Art Exhibits

Behold our young artists' creative talents under Mrs. Fretz's direction. From some of our youngest to our older students, we have a variety of creativity on display.

In the top photo, you will see "Watercolor Castles" from our kindergarten kids as they learn to draw basic geometric shapes. Paired with their projects, are the work of our third grade students with "Warm Sun, Cool Cactus,"- as they learn about working with "warm" and "cool" colors.

In the second photo are giraffes created with oil pastels. Be sure to check out these fine creations when you stop in at the school office, or if you happen to be upstairs near the library.

Over the years our schools have had a number of young talents get their starts here. We're grateful to have Mrs. Fretz on hand to help nurture that skill and creativity.

FROM THE CASCADE CAMPUS

Introducing Sparrow Carsen

When you're going through adversity, it's comforting to know you are not alone. Students at Cascade Christian are once again walking alongside a young person in the middle of a tough battle through Sparrow Clubs.

Last Thursday, our middle school and high school had a combined assembly to be introduced to Carsen, a 12-year-old boy from Central Point who found out last year that he had a cancerous glial cell tumor on his spine. He experienced a setback after his spine did not heal properly after his initial surgery, and he spent several months wearing a back and neck brace. Presently, Carsen is going through months of intensive chemotherapy.

He's an amazing young man who hopes his journey will inspire others who may be experiencing difficult things. In his video introduction, Carsen says he will not let his illness define him, but rather it's something he must simply overcome.

For the next several months, Cascade kids will perform volunteer projects with a goal of 600 hours, which will unlock a challenge from a generous donor. There will also be fundraisers as well in support of our Sparrow's family. Mae Ferreira, Alyse Lane, and Amelia Vanlandingham will serve as student ambassadors.

As you can see from the pictures, a fantastic bond is already forming. A big tip of the cap to Airport Chevrolet and all the other sponsors who are partnering with us.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

6th Graders Volunteer at ACCESS

It may be hard to imagine, but there are a significant number of kids in our community to need help with getting enough to eat. ACCESS has a program where boxes are packed with food to ensure that needy children in our community have enough to eat over the weekend.

Mrs. Adams took her sixth grade class to ACCESS, where they packed and stacked "weekend boxes" for those that needed them. It was fun to see our middle schoolers hard at work to serve others. This fits right in with an endeavor by Cascade Christian Middle School to encourage students to perform a minimum of four hours of community service each quarter. When these students reach high school, community service will be part of their capstone.

Down By The Stream

It’s easy to take water for granted—until it’s scarce or unhealthy. Water sustains life, and it’s full of life. Today, one of our Science classes ventured down to the creek beside our campus to study the water flowing right through our grounds.

The Rogue Basin Salmon Watch led an impressive presentation, sampling creek water to assess its quality, performing a salmon dissection to teach about the fish’s anatomy, and conducting a riparian study. Local experts did a fantastic job making these topics both informative and engaging.

Our world holds many wonders we may overlook, but it’s truly eye-opening when a passionate educator or biologist reveals the incredible ecosystem in our own backyard.

Journey Beneath The Surface

What’s it like beneath the surface of the earth? What does it look like? How hot is it? Thanks to virtual reality, we now have a glimpse!

Our CCMS Science classes recently put on VR headsets to explore the depths of the earth. The immersive YouTube videos they watched provided an up-close look at geological formations, temperatures, and more.

It’s a fascinating experience, and we’re grateful to George Fox University for making the headsets available. This technology truly brings science to life!

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS

Exploding Pumpkins

Mr. Wine is at it again! Do you think he enjoys his job? The abundant supply of pumpkins this time of year gives him a ready excuse to......blow them up!

After hollowing out the gourds, Mr. Wine demonstrates the power of putting the right combination of chemicals together to create an explosion. Is it any wonder Mr. Wine is one of our most popular teachers?

It's Snack Time In AP Spanish

Hungry? How about a molette from Sr. Chavez's AP Spanish class? This open-faced sandwich consisting of refried beans, seasoned ground beef, cheese, and salsa made a tasty afternoon snack.

It was great seeing the teamwork and enjoying a little Mexican culinary culture, but the best part was the eating.

Thanks for the invitation, Emilio!

VOLLEYBALL

Westside Christian asserted early control to defeat CCHS in straight sets to advance to the Oregon 3A tournament at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay.

“Westside is a talented team and did a good job keeping us on our heels,” said Challengers coach Rob Kleker. “They had a great game plan and executed it well,” he said.

Poppy Freeman topped Cascade with 9 kills, 6 digs, and a block. Hadley Wilcox blocked 5 Eagle attempts, Julia Brehm scored 5 kills, 2 blocks and 2 digs, Izzy McCauley had 5 kills and 6 digs, Annika Byers contributed 8 digs, while Grace McCauley led the Challengers with 18 digs. Rylan Hunter dished out 18 assists.

Kleker says “This season didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but the girls progressed and had some really good performances, highlighted by our victory over Santiam Christian.”

For Kori Coble, Byers, Freeman, Brehm, and Freeman, it marks the end of their high school volleyball careers. Of his seniors, he said, “I am very proud of this group of girls. We will miss our seniors, but are excited to see what the future brings.”

GIRLS SOCCER

In a match that went down to the wire, Pleasant Hill won their first-round match with Cascade Christian on a goal with 8 seconds left to win a 1-0 victory. The Challengers ended their season with a 7-6-2 record, an improvement of 3 wins over the year before, and the team made a playoff appearance for the first time in several years. A salute to Jordynn Jones, Ryann DeBoer, Katharina Gray, Taylor Folin, Angelica Arce, Emma Coats, and Josie Scaglione for all their hard work and dedication during their careers. They have been a pleasure to watch.

CROSS COUNTRY

By running a 17:19 and finishing seventh at the Special District 4 Championship meet, Nash Crisp has qualified for the state meet to represent Cascade Christian. The Challenger boys and the Challenger girls finished fourth at the district meet at Lane Community College in Eugene. By their finish, the Challenger girls have earned the right to compete at state on an at-large berth.

In the boys’ race, Isaac Young finished eighth with a 17:39. Freshman Kyler Straube placed inside the top 20 with a 19:04. Junior Riley Wood scored a PR with a 19:41, Tayen Landers- who did double fall sports duty as a soccer player ran a 20:17.

In the girls’ race, Saige Griffin scored an eighth-place finish with a 20:28, Raena Crisp finished in the top 15 with a time of 20:41, Madyson Winters clocked a 20:54, Emma Coats- another multi-sport fall athlete recorded a 23:02, Josie Scaglione a 24:42, Tanaya Mahar a 25:14, and Samantha Robertson a 32:39.

FOOTBALL

Cascade Christian has had several outstanding quarterbacks over the years, but arguably the best runner to ever wear the purple and gold might be Deryk Farmer. During the first two series of the game, the junior ran for two long touchdowns, ending up with four overall and 177 yards to pace the Challengers’ 39-0 victory over Lakeview, clinching first place in Special District 5 to end the regular season.

Farmer had 177 yards rushing and threw touchdown passes to Bryley Richardson and Bryson Walker. Passing, Deryk went 6 for 12 for 128 yards. Walker had 3 catches for 91 yards, Richardson had 2 receptions for 27, and Cohen Calvert had a reception for 10 yards.

Defensively, Wyatt Hurley, Caleb Parker, and Alex Fiannaca led the team in tackles. Jacob Beamish recorded an interception, and Fiannaca also had a fumble recovery. By winning their league, Cascade Christian will open the Oregon 3A playoffs with a home game against Yamhill-Carlton on Friday night.
