SATURDAY AUGUST 1
FOOD DRIVE Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020.  We are back by popular demand!  Bring your non-perishable food items to the Good Shepherd parking lot 11am to noon.  We get to say hello to each other and have at least a brief catch-up, while helping our neighbors get by.  Food Banks across the nation are down in supply, and demand is  up uP UP!

And this time it's a  "Twofer" - we have our food drive for Manna, and our partner in liturgy, Transfiguration Parish, is holding a drive for items to fill supply packs for the homeless at the same time. Transfiguration is a partner parish with Samaritan Ministry, which most of have heard of.  There will be a guest preacher from Samaritan ministry at our liturgy this Sunday, to tell us about their work.  Suggestions of what to give to Transfiguration for these packs will be given in this bulletin.  In general, think what you would want to bring for spending a week sleeping outdoors.  Socks are the number one request, and portable snack items are helpful -- cheese and cracker packs, raisins, meal bars, etc. - a light blanket, rain hoods,  etc.  You can drop off the items at Good Shepherd and we will take them to Transfiguration, or you can bring them to Transfiguration yourself between 12-1 on Saturday.  Their address is 13925 New Hampshire Ave.,  Silver Spring, MD  20904.

As always, your support is greatly treasured!  I am proud to be a part of this parish that is so loving in action!  Thank you! Deacon Kathryn.
The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost August 2
We will be celebrating The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost virtually with the Church of the Transfiguration via Zoom at 10:30 am. A link and instructions will be emailed. We hope you will join us for this worship service.
UPDATE FROM FR. DAVID
Dear Good Shepherd family,
Under the guidance and with information from the Bishop and Diocese, your leadership team (Clergy, Wardens, and Vestry) has begun discussions regarding reopening the church building. The Diocese has provided a phased approach to gathering for church worship and building use.

As always I am available to you  in Spirit even as it is not possible to be physically together. Remember that my mobile number is 202-491-4340 and my email is rector@gsecmd.org and feel free to be in touch via text, phone or email if you have questions, need someone to pray with or someone to talk to.  I am celebrating the Eucharist and discussing the readings on Facebook Live on Wednesdays at 11:30 am.  I encourage you to join these virtual worship opportunities as way of remaining connected to one another and the wider Church. Finally, we continue to provide updates via email and on Good Shepherd's website and Facebook page. (Link Below)
ANNOUNCEMENTS
People of Good Shepherd - thank you!  The June pledge payments have been counted and nearly $29,000 has been sent in. Thank you for keeping your pledges up-to-date! Your generous and timely donations, through the mail and/or online, have kept Good Shepherd meeting its overall budgetary pledge targets. I urge you to continue with your conscientious pledge-giving through the remainder of the summer and through to the end of the year. It delights me to say that, even though we can't be together in person, we are still sticking together as the community of Good Shepherd. Deena Groshong, Senior Warden.

Upcoming vacations: Fr. David will be away from the office  August 1 through August 16th. Kathryn will be away August 9 - August 15. Lynn will be away August 17 through August 23rd.
Social Ministries
I WANT to DO Something, But What Can I Do? - I WANT to help make bag lunches for the clients of the Men's Emergency Shelter in community with my Good Shepherd friends. I WANT to bring in staples on Sundays for the Saint Luke Food Pantry.  I WANT to work with others to prepare and share a dinner with the clients of Center Global at a monthly meeting. I WANT to be part of a crew serving a meal at Shepherd's Table.  I WANT to put my offering in the Globe on Sundays or have Martin do it for me.  I am a follower of Jesus.  I want to DO something.  I don't want just to write a check.  Well, dear friends, sometimes our best way to respond to the various needs of our community is to honor their wish that we write that check if we are able to do so.  It is also important for Social Ministries not to encourage you to  put yourself in harm's way ..

A check to Saint Luke Food Pantry helps Ruth Manchester purchase and safely distribute Giant cards to the ever increasing numbers of clients.   A check to Shepherd's Table helps them purchase essential meal preparation items.  A check to Center Global helps them respond to the needs of LGBTQ asylum seekers who have fortunately escaped persecution and even death in their countries of birth by making it  here before the doors are shut by our government. While Good Shepherd continues making a monthly contribution to MCCH from the Social MInistries budget for bag lunches, they would be happy to receive one from you, as well. For updated info click here. And for you dedicated grocery shoppers, you can happily fill your carts with staples to bring to our parking lot every two Saturdays.  Many thanks to our Deacon Kathryn for instituting this shopping opportunity.  Keep looking for her notices in the eVoice.  Here are some helpful addresses:
