The Fourth Sunday after Pentecost  June 28
We will be celebrating The Fourth Sunday after Pentecost virtually with the Church of the Transfiguration via Zoom at 10:30 am. A link and instructions will be emailed. We hope you will join us for this worship service.
UPDATE FROM FR. DAVID
Dear Good Shepherd family,
Under the guidance and with information from the Bishop and Diocese, your leadership team (Clergy, Wardens, and Vestry) has begun discussions regarding reopening the church building. The Diocese has provided a phased approach to gathering for church worship and building use.

As always I am available to you  in Spirit even as it is not possible to be physically together. Remember that my mobile number is 202-491-4340 and my email is rector@gsecmd.org and feel free to be in touch via text, phone or email if you have questions, need someone to pray with or someone to talk to.  I am celebrating the Eucharist and discussing the readings on Facebook Live on Wednesdays at 11:30 am.  I encourage you to join these virtual worship opportunities as way of remaining connected to one another and the wider Church. Finally, we continue to provide updates via email and on Good Shepherd's website and Facebook page. (Link Below)
ANNOUNCEMENTS
From Reverend McMahon:
Many thanks to Sean Hardy, Allen Wyrick, Lynn & Greg Wood, Fr. David and everyone who helped make our Food Drive last Saturday a success!  Once again Good Shepherd comes through!  But don't get too comfortable.  There's more to come!  When David took our food to Manna, he was talking to the staff, and was told that the need is so great that they have had to resort to buying food at times. So David and I have decided to do a Food Drive every 2 weeks, starting July 4.  Are you up to the challenge?

Our first recipient is our neighbor, Luther Rice Memorial Baptist Church across the street from Good Shepherd.  They maintain a food pantry and they, too, are feeling the pinch.  More people than ever are coming to them for food, besides the MCPS crowd which are supplied by the schools.  Cars start lining up an hour before the distribution time, and they inevitably run out before the line ends.  Can you please help by bringing canned foods (low salt when possible), dried milk, crackers, nut butters, canned chicken and fish, pasta and sauces, etc. to the Good Shepherd Parking Lot on Saturday, July 4, 10-11 am?  What better way to celebrate our nations birth than to help those in need!
I am truly grateful for your generosity!

Miracles in the Good Shepherd Parking Lot - Who says that miracles are a thing of the past?  Check out the following miracles from just this past Saturday morning:

Miracle #1 - Fr. David, Shaun Hardy and Allen Wyrick arrived with empty cars and departed with cars stuffed full of nutritious staples to deliver to Manna Foods, thanks to many generous shoppers.
Miracle #2 - Remaining Equal Exchange products sold like hot cakes, providing goodies for buyers and funds to refill the church coffers.  Only 3 bags of coffee and 2 chocolate bars were left.
Miracle #3 - A vivacious unicorn showed up to cheer us on.  Some said that the unicorn resembled Buffy, but true believers knew the difference.
Miracle #4 - After all this time, we still recognized one another!!

Saint Luke Food Pantry - Still in business providing Giant gift cards to clients referred by a multitude of organizations, including the public schools.  Your donations by check or online are much appreciated.  For online giving, just go to the Saint Luke Lutheran Church Silver Spring website and click on Covid-19 under donations/contributions.  Questions:  Contact Lynn Wood.

A message from Deena Groshong, Senior Warden
Hello church family and friends!  I'd like to remind everyone that Good Shepherd's financial situation continues as before.  We would appreciate it, if you are able, to keep your pledge up-to-date by mailing a personal or bank-issued check to the office weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly or clicking on the donate button on our website.  Thank you to all who continue to do so.

New Adult Ed series: Sacred Ground starting Wednesday July 1 from 6 pm until 7:30 pm. This is a film and reading based series. To participate email rector @gsecmd.org by 5 pm June 26.

Heifer -    Our 2020 Heifer Lenten Project will be postponed until further notice.  It would be appreciated if everyone kept their "piggy banks" at home until the Ingathering date is announced.  What do you get when you cross a pig with a Christmas tree?  A porky-pine!
