Bag Lunch Preparation is THIS Saturday, February 8, at 9:45 am in the Parish Hall - Many hands do make light work and we are still in the winter cycle of preparing twice as many lunches for the Men's Shelter just off Gude Drive in Rockville.  The purchase of supplies for the bag lunch program is the principal focus of funds allocated to the Social Ministries Team by the Vestry.  Please join us for good conversation as well as accomplishing an important form of outreach.

Thank you to the Vestry for their help in setting up for the Annual Meeting last week, and a big thank you to everyone who helped with the clean up afterward!
Altar Flower Program - The flower program is suspended at this time. Parishioners who have signed up and paid for flowers in 2020 will have their payments credited to their 2020 pledge unless the office is instructed otherwise.

Calling All Creators, Cooks, and Shoppers!  - It's your time to shine at the annual Heifer Creativity Fair on Sunday, March 1 after both services.  This first Sunday of Lent is our annual opportunity to give a rousing jump start to our Lenten Heifer Campaign.  It is our opportunity to show off our creations of all kinds and give all of us the opportunity to respond to our parish creative genius through our purchases.  All profits go to Heifer International so shopping is guilt-free.  Our Lenten Heifer Campaign will continue through Palm Sunday.  Specific details will be forthcoming about our focus for this year.  Our leader once again is the infamous Deena Groshong so we can expect to be entertained.  For questions, please contact either Deena or Lynn Wood.  The Heifer Creativity Fair coffee hour will be there to nourish you as you shop.

Chocolate for Valentine's Day - How about delicious organic free trade chocolate in a wide variety of types and cocoa levels?  How about chocolate that serves the wider purpose of helping small independent farmers achieve financial independence?  How about chocolate for yourself as well as for someone else?  How about a bag or two of organic free trade coffee or a can of cocoa mix to accompany the chocolate?  How about a box of Medjool dates for a different taste of sweet?  For any who are guilt-inclined, a bottle of Palestinian olive oil and/or a bag of Maftoul (Palestinian whole wheat couscous) could provide nourishment prior to devouring the chocolate.  Sales this Sunday.  Prices:: $3/chocolate bar;; $7/bag of coffee; $12/a 17.6 oz. box Medjool dates; $12/a 500ML bottle/olive oil; $8/a  28.2 oz. bag Maftoul handcrafted couscous; $6/can cocoa mix.  Cash, check, or (maybe) credit.

February 16 - Pizza & Games after the 10:30 service.
February 25 - Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper provided by Boy Scout Troop 97.
Ash Wednesday , February 26 - two services noon and 7 pm.

Save the Date! -  What date? - Sunday, March 1 after both services.  March 1, by the way, is the first Sunday of Lent. Where? - In the narthex.   Why? - The marvelous, eagerly anticipated Heifer Creativity Fair will take place!

What is the Heifer Creativity Fair? It is the annual kickoff of our Lenten Campaign to raise funds for Heifer International through the purchase at our "market" of parishioners' handmade and homemade creative arts, jewelry, fabric apparel, and food.
What is Heifer International? - An organizational dedicated since the 1940's to helping individuals and communities throughout the world more toward financial independence through education accompanied by gifts of animals, bees, trees, crops, etc.  More details to come or you can explore Heifer International online.
How can I participate? - As a creator, a shopper, or both.
Is there also a coffee hour to nourish me as I shop? Yes.
If I want to participate as a creator.  Who should I contact? - Deena Groshong or Lynn Wood.
What is this year's theme? - Sorry, but this writer's lips are sealed for the time being.

Saint Luke Food Pantry  - Our main focus, per their request is to keep the shelves stocked with a variety of nutritious staples, which include proteins (canned chicken and tuna and bags/cans of black, kidney, and garbanzo beans); canned vegetables and fruit; pasta and sauce (together or separately); bags of rice, peanut butter and tubes of jelly; chili and hearty soups; and nutritious cereals (hot or cold). Condiments are also welcomed as are Latino-style staples. Enjoy tossing a few of these items in your basket as you grocery shop.  Each item fills a need.

Distribution of Globe Contributions  - Thanks to your faithful contributions to the Globe each Sunday, the time has arrived to distribute 20% of the current total, or $440 each, to the following groups per our custom:  Shepherd's Table, Center Global, Diocesan Hunger Fund, MUSST (Ministries United Silver Spring Takoma Park), and Episcopal Relief and Development.  The annual report contains more specific information about these groups selected by the Social Ministries Team.  You can also speak with Lynn Wood, Shaun Hardy, or Deborah Beebe if you wish to know more.  It is amazing how those coins and dollar bills (and higher) add up over time.
