ANNOUNCEMENTS

Advent Adult Education begins  this evening for the next 3 Thursdays at 7 pm in the Education Wing.  Come and join the Rev. Kathryn McMahon and seminarian, Shawn Evelyn as they lead an adult formation Advent series on the popular Advent hymn, " O, Come O, Come Emmanuel" as we prepare for the coming Christmas season

Parish wide clean-up inside and out this Sunday -
Pizza lunch provided. For outside work please bring your own rake and other lawn tools. Tarps or old sheets are needed as well. See Phill Scott for assignments.

Shepherd's Table November Outreach - This Sunday is the final day of our November Outreach to Shepherd's Table.  The cold weather has definitely arrived.  That is why we contribute NEW thermal gloves and socks, long underwear, warm scarves and hats, and large plain backpacks for personal storage to the clients of Shepherd's Table.  Our gifts warm bodies and hearts.  Thank you

A Message from Father David
We are preparing for the nomination of new members to the vestry. If you are approached to serve, please give serious consideration to saying "Yes!" Serving on the vestry is an important ministry and an opportunity to work with truly gifted and fun people. We begin each meeting with a reflection on the following Sunday's gospel and we end on time so come join us! As part of this year's nominating process we are also filling the Junior/People's Warden position. If you have any questions or would like to discuss serving as the Junior Warden, please contact me or Patty Mitchell.   David+

Saint Luke Food Pantry - All nutritious staples are welcome.  If you need ideas, please pick up the list of suggestions at the cabinet at the back of church where staples are placed waiting for John MacArthur to deliver them.  Let's make him work hard!  Thank you, John.

December to March - Remember that Good Shepherd's month for providing healthy snacks for the Episcopal Center for Children has been changed from December to March.

It's never too late to pledge!   Pledge cards can be found on the desk in the Narthex and may be placed in the offering plate or in the lockbox on the Narthex desk.

Upcoming

What comes after Thanksgiving?  Pre-Christmas Fest! Sunday, December 9th after the 10:30 am service in the Parish Hall Boy Scout Fundraiser: Tomato Soup/Grilled Cheese Followed by "Ugly Sweater/Festive Attire" Contest. Christmas Carol Sing-Along and a Cookie Exchange. We end with Punch and Cookies in the Narthex.

The 12th Annual Christmas Simulcast Service is Coming Soon - You are invited to worship with Christians in the Holy Land and around the world in person at the Cathedral or online at cathedral.org on Saturday, December 15 at 9:30 am.  Music, prayer, and message move back and forth through the miracle of technology between the Washington National Cathedral and the Christmas Lutheran Church in THE Bethlehem.  This is a very special worship experience that is so much more meaningful than time at the mall.  After the service, you can, of course, shop at the Cathedral bookstore and gift shop.  You can also delight in the annual display of Nativity scenes from around the world.  Greg and Lynn Wood are part of the Jerusalem Committee of the Diocese that plans and promotes this service so you can contact them with questions you might have.  It would make our day to be able to welcome many of you, our fellow parishioners, at the Cathedral on December 15 at 9:30.  See the flyers on the bulletin board in the hall.

Why is There a Christmas Tree in the Narthex?  - It's that time of year when we respond to specific needs for young children and their mothers given to us by the staff of Crossway Community in Kensington.  The process is easy:  1.  Select a tag that names something you would like to buy for either a young child or a young mother.  2.  Purchase your NEW gift and place it under the tree UNWRAPPED by Sunday, December 16.  If you need a assistance with shopping, please notify Nina Scott, Lynn Wood, or our Deacon Kathryn McMahon by December 9.  The structured 3-year program for the mothers and the on-campus Montessori experience for the children transform lives.  Our December gifts are a piece of a wide year-long outreach to this program by the larger Montgomery County community.  Learn more about Crossway Community online.  Many thanks to Nina and Phill Scott for once again coordinating this Christmas outreach opportunity.

Christmas Flowers - If you would like to contribute toward Christmas flowers in memory or celebration of a loved one please fill out a Christmas Flower envelope found on the ushers' desk. Cost for flower dedication is $50.00. Place the envelope in the collection plate or lock box no later than Sunday December 16th.

This year the church office will be closed from December 25 through January 1.
