GOOD SHEPHERD EPISCOPAL CHURCH

Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost

November 8, 2026

We will be celebrating with Transfiguration Church via Zoom at 9:00 am and in-person at Good Shepherd Church at 10:30 am.

Good Shepherd Mission Statement

We are a people who hear the Good Shepherd's voice.

We know by faith that we belong to God.

We are called to seek and love our neighbors as God loves us!

RECTOR'S MESSAGE

Dear friends,

It's been quite a week. Elections stir up a lot in us, and wherever you find yourself today, there's room for you at Good Shepherd. I want to say a word about how we hold what we're feeling, and how we hold one another.

Paul tells the church in Rome to "rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep." To the Philippians he writes, "Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near." He isn't telling us joy is wrong. He's reminding us that somewhere close by, at coffee hour, across the Thanksgiving table, at work or in the next pew, someone is feeling something very different from what we feel. They are beloved children of God, just as we are. In our Baptismal Covenant we promise to respect the dignity of every human being, not only the ones who voted the way we did.

So here are a few invitations for the days ahead:

  • If you're celebrating, celebrate kindly. Joy doesn't need someone else to lose.
  • Pause before you post or speak. Ask yourself: Is it true? Is it helpful? Is it timely? Is it kind?
  • Listen more than you talk with someone who sees things differently. Curiosity is a form of love.
  • Remember that an election is a beginning, not an ending. Caring for the vulnerable and working for justice and peace is still ours to do, whoever holds office.

The Prayer Book's prayer for our country (BCP p. 820) asks God to "save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way." That's a good prayer for this week, and for every week.

Grace and peace,

Sarah +

SOCIAL OUTREACH

From EPPN Office of Government Relations: Join us each week as we share new prayers for the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. We will name many of the harms unfolding and acknowledge what is being erased, lost, and threatened. These prayers are not a replacement for action; they are meant to offer space for grounding and discernment as we seek to bear one another’s burdens in the love and way of Christ. Join by Zoom (click here) each Monday at 11:45 a.m. to hear the prayers aloud, in the context of a simple liturgy, prayed by members of the Community of Francis and Clare. Click here to read the prayers for this week.

Shepherd’s Table is asking Good Shepherd for volunteers. Please follow this link for opportunities to volunteer or reach out to Daniella Burgos dburgos@shepherdstable.org. Thank you!
