GOOD SHEPHERD EPISCOPAL CHURCH

Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost

October 25, 2026

We will be celebrating with Transfiguration Church via Zoom at 9:00 am and in-person at Good Shepherd Church at 10:30 am.

Good Shepherd Mission Statement

We are a people who hear the Good Shepherd's voice.

We know by faith that we belong to God.

We are called to seek and love our neighbors as God loves us!

RECTOR'S MESSAGE

Dear Good Shepherd,

This Sunday we hear Jesus answer the question of which commandment is greatest. His answer is simple enough to fit on an index card: love God with everything you have, and love your neighbor as yourself. Simple, but never finished. As the leaves turn and our calendars fill, I invite you to notice where that love is already at work in your life, perhaps in a kindness you received this week, a conversation that mattered, or a quiet moment of prayer. And then to ask where it might be stretching you next.

A number of us will be away this weekend at our parish retreat at Shrine Mont. Retreats are one of the ways a community practices that double love: setting aside time to rest in God and to get to know one another more deeply. Please hold all of us in your prayers as we travel, gather, and return, and know that you will be in ours.

Worship here in Silver Spring continues as usual on Sunday morning, with our 9:00 Zoom service and our 10:30 in-person service. We're glad to welcome Rev. Christopher back as supply clergy, leading worship alongside Deacon Linda. Whether you're at Shrine Mont, in the pews at Good Shepherd, or joining us online, we are one body, held together in God's love.

Faithfully,

Sarah +

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Hunger Globe Update - Our weekly contributions to our outreach Globe are more needed than ever. Our three semi-annual recipients are Shepherd's Table, MUM (Ministries United Montgomery), and Arrived. The latter is a longtime recipient with a new name. Their mission is more essential than ever. Contact Lynn or Shaun if you wish more specifics.

Good Shepherd will celebrate All Saints Day on Sunday November 1, 2026. This is a day in the church year when we traditionally honor loved ones who have died. This year in the narthex, we will have a table set up for you to add pictures and names of any loved ones you would like to remember. For those who have died within the past year (since November 2025), you may submit their names to be read aloud during worship. Please email names of family and friends who have died in the past year to Megan Kennedy at assistant@gsecmd.org. Names submitted by Wednesday, October 28 at 5 PM will be read aloud during the service.

Wednesday Bible Study - 11:30 am with Deacon Linda Mahler

SOCIAL OUTREACH

From EPPN Office of Government Relations: Join us each week as we share new prayers for the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. We will name many of the harms unfolding and acknowledge what is being erased, lost, and threatened. These prayers are not a replacement for action; they are meant to offer space for grounding and discernment as we seek to bear one another’s burdens in the love and way of Christ. Join by Zoom (click here) each Monday at 11:45 a.m. to hear the prayers aloud, in the context of a simple liturgy, prayed by members of the Community of Francis and Clare. Click here to read the prayers for this week.

Shepherd’s Table is asking Good Shepherd for volunteers. Please follow this link for opportunities to volunteer or reach out to Daniella Burgos dburgos@shepherdstable.org. Thank you!
