GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

HALLELUJAH! Good Shepherd welcomed and celebrated with our new Rector, the Reverend Sarah Akes-Cardwell, this past Sunday, August 23! After the joyous service (also featuring our newly returned-from-sabbatical-in-France organist and flautist, George and Anna), we had a tour de force potluck with abundant culinary delights, courtesy of our many talented parishioners! We are truly blessed and grateful!

Let Us Join Blair Unida in Reaching Out to Immigrant Families - Blair Unida is a community of parents, teachers, and neighbors who have come together to support local families whose children attend one or more of the 13 schools within the Blair Cluster. It is a chapter of the MoCo Immigrant Right Collective. Good Shepherd's location places us within the Blair community. We have members who have either worked, studied, or have had children study at Blair over the years. Many Blair families are currently victims of unjust and frightening immigration activities. Our social concerns include Social Justice. Note that legal fees alone can reach into the thousands of dollars. Lynn, Lillian, and Ana are your contacts at church. March on Washington Tomorrow -  FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2026 Lincoln Memorial Arrive 8 AM, Program begins 9 AM. The dream is unfinished. We rise to carry it forward. As America marks 250 years, people from across the country are gathering to defend voting rights, civil rights, liberty, justice, and power to the people. Wear Your Name Tag! As we welcome our new rector, Sarah, we invite everyone to wear their name tags each Sunday. Wearing your name tag will help Sarah learn names and get to know our parish family more quickly. If you don't have a name tag or need a replacement, please let an usher know. Thank you for helping us extend a warm welcome!

Fall Parish Retreat to Shrine Mont: Our annual parish retreat to Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, VA will take place the weekend of October 23-25, 2026. "To provide a place apart for rest, devotion, fellowship, learning and education, where all may grow in the grace of God." Come and connect with your Parish family. Celebrate the 58th year we have crossed the river, gone over the mountain to Orkney Springs. Experience the beauty of fall in the Shenandoah Mountains, education and reflection with our Parish. Also, we can hike, read, relax and play! There will be a bonfire SATURDAY night with smores, arts and crafts, and some competitive card games! Please fill out this form to indicate if you are able to join us this year.

RECTOR'S MESSAGE

I’m settling into these first weeks with you, and wanted to share a bit about how and when you can reach me. I’m in the office Wednesdays and Thursdays — the best days to catch me in person or set up time to talk. Fridays are my writing day, protected for sermon prep and reflection, so I’m slower to respond then. Across the rest of the week I check email once or twice a day, so you’ll always hear back, just maybe not right away. For anything urgent, email me directly at rector@gsecmd.org.

(One more thing: if you ever get an email that looks like it’s from me asking you to buy gift cards or send money urgently, it isn’t — that’s a common scam targeting clergy contacts. Always fine to call the office to check!)
