GOOD SHEPHERD EPISCOPAL CHURCH

The First Sunday of Advent

November 27, 2022

We will be celebrating with Transfiguration Church (via Zoom) at 9:00 am and Holy Eucharist Rite II in-person at 10:30 am at Good Shepherd. Masks are still required.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thanksgiving

We give you thanks, most gracious God, for the beauty of earth and sky and sea; for the richness of mountains, plains, and rivers; for the songs of birds and the loveliness of flowers. We praise you for these good gifts, and pray that we may safeguard them for our posterity.

Good Shepherd Thanksgiving Potluck. Please join your Good Shepherd family for a Thanksgiving Potluck in the parish hall at 5 pm November 24th. We are asking all that attend to mask while socializing outside of the meal, and tables will be arranged to allow for distancing from those outside your immediate family to protect any vulnerable members of the community. You may sign up by using the sign up genius link, Good Shepherd Thanksgiving Potluck

We will share Advent worship beginning November 27 with our siblings from Buen Pastor. Our services will be simple, with a contemplative spirit as we wait, watch, pray and hope together. We’ll try a new all-one-piece bulletin format. There will be an opportunity for community building after each service. On Sunday, Nov 27, Mother Anna will introduce themes of Advent and share resources for personal devotions during this short but beautiful season. -

Pledge Ingathering.  This Sunday we will give thanks for the generous outpouring from our congregation during our 2023 Stewardship Campaign as we present pledges totaling $220,500 at the 10:30 service.  We will also renew our commitment of time and talent to Good Shepherd for the year ahead.  With God’s help and yours, we can indeed “Do a New Thing” together!  Missed our stewardship talks at church?  You can watch them all at at https://www.gsecmd.org/good-shepherd-stewardship-campaign.

18th Annual ECW Advent Prayer Breakfast Virtual  |  December 3, 2022 Join women from across the Episcopal Diocese. Huber and sing praises for the start of the Advent Season. All are welcome. Please mark your calendars and register on Eventbrite to attend online. The event is free, but registration is required.

SOCIAL OUTREACH

Fill the Coatrack! - There is still enough space for that small or medium men's winter jacket that you might wish to hang on the coatrack this last Sunday of our November outreach campaign. Each jacket will warm both body and soul of its refugee recipient. We can't do everything, but we do what we can, especially in our response to specific needs of current refugees sent to our area. As the ditty below says, "New if possible." If used, in excellent condition. Thank you.

Winter jackets,

Good Shepherd, this is your call,

New if possible, medium or small

'Cause BRRR follows Fall.

EPPN Action Alerts

Child Tax Credit

The Child Tax Credit is one of the most effective tools to address child poverty. Reauthorizing a CTC that benefits all families – not just those who pay a sufficient amount in taxes – will help the most vulnerable children. Write your Representative and Senators and urge them to support a refundable, monthly Child Tax Credit.

Respect for Marriage Act

Recent reporting indicates that the Senate will take up the Respect for Marriage Act this week. In 2012, General Convention passed a resolution urging Congress to “pass legislation to allow the U.S. federal government to provide benefits” to same-sex couples. Please take action and urge your Senators to vote yes on the bipartisan Respect for Marriage Act.

For any questions please call Lynette Clark at 301-357-1726 or email at [email protected]
