FROM PETER'S PEN
This Sunday's service will feature an Instructed Eucharist. I will guide us through a discussion of our worship to help us understand why we worship the way that we do and how we are able to fully enter into that worship. We will explore Eucharistic Prayer B in The Book of Common Prayer, beginning on page 367. We will talk about where our worship originated and what has flavored and guided its development. Some of it is over 4,000 years old!
We will also discuss your role in the service, which is powerful but not always easily seen. Despite what you may think, you will not bring the whole service to a screaming halt by failing to say certain words at a particular point. Please look over this section and come prepared to listen, question, and learn! As a reminder, Sunday’s service begins at 10:30 AM.
With joy,
Peter +

P.S. FROM THE ASCENSION SECURITY TEAM: Recently there have been reports of vehicle break-ins in church parking lots in Lexington and Frankfort. Our security team checks all three parking lots where members park their vehicles and has observed people hanging around our members' cars during services. On Sunday, April 24, 2022, the security team again observed individuals checking cars in these lots. Our team scared them away.
When you come to church for any function, please ensure that your car is locked and do not leave any valuables in your car. The security team will continue to physically check the parking lots during church services, but everyone must take responsibility for keeping their vehicles and possessions safe.

What About a Rite I Service at 8 AM ?
I recently received an inquiry about adding back an 8:00 AM service on Sunday mornings. At this time, we only have about 40 people worshiping in person on Sundays, and I am not willing to split up this congregation into two mini-congregations. We currently have great fellowship between people who, before COVID, attended different worship services. Now they are getting to know each other and building new friendships. Our congregation is also experiencing growth and new members, so I want to keep us together and nurture that good energy!
However, I am curious to hear if others are interested in bringing back the 8:00 AM service. It would be a service without music or a procession. If, at some point, we were to resume that service, we would need more people serving on the altar guild and performing other lay duties such as chalice bearer, lector, usher, and security. COVID has brought changes to these ministries, and we do not currently have enough people serving in these roles to support two services.
If you are interested in adding back/attending an 8:00 AM service, please respond to Deacon Rebecca Saager by May 15, either in person or by email to curate@ascensionfrankfort.org. Also please indicate your willingness to participate at 8:00 AM as:
- altar guild member
- chalice bearer
- lector, to read the lessons and prayers
- usher
- security team.
Sincerely,
Peter +

ST. GEORGE'S DAY
Saturday, April 30
The Cathedral Domain and the Cathedral Domain Board invite all parishioners, guests, staff and clergy to attend St. George’s Day at the Cathedral Domain on Saturday, April 30, beginning at 10:00 AM. Activities will include camp tours, hiking and caving, a bouncy castle, life-size Jenga and chess games, corn hole, arts and crafts, a silent auction. What a wonderful way for all the different communities within our diocese to come together as one family in a place none other than the heart of the Diocese, the Cathedral Domain. Hello from Simon House! It’s been a while since you have heard from us in this COVID environment, but we are moving forward and are serving more people than ever before. During the past year, Simon House has been working tirelessly to fill a need in the community for shelter facilities for all people who are without the necessity of a roof over their heads. Now, in addition to providing shelter to homeless women with children, Simon House has expanded their services to include:
- Campbell Street emergency shelter for women who are pregnant or have children – 7 families, 24/7 availability.
- Community outreach services to prevent homelessness and food insecurity, expanded into Woodford County and continuing to grow.
-
NEW East Main Street emergency shelter for men and women, with or without children – capacity 16 persons, 24/7 availability.
-
NEW East Main Street warming and cooling center and storm shelter during inclement weather for men and women, with or without children – capacity 70 persons, 24/7 availability.
If you would like to help with the growing expanded services, there are some simple ways to do this. We are in need of toilet paper, hand soap, shampoo and conditioner, breakfast bars, granola bars, perishable and frozen microwavable meals, ramen noodle cups, towels and hand towels, paper plates and paper bowls, ear buds (Android and Apple), deodorant and razors for men and women, women's large Depends, diapers for children (sizes 4, 5, 6), wipes and cases of drinking water. We could use a toaster oven and/or toaster to be used in the downstairs shelter.
We thank you for all your help and ask for prayers as we work for those most in need in our community.
Linda Stopper

John B. Martin
Chair, Simon House Board of Directors

On April 30, we will finish up our discussion of The Book of Common Prayer. Please bring your thoughts and questions with you. We will specifically focus on two areas: pages 453 - 461 ("Ministration to the Sick") and pages 809 and following ("Prayers and Thanksgivings"). Please take time to look over these two sections and make note of any prayers, etc. that speak to you. Please also think about anything that you feel might be missing from this section of the Prayer Book. If you were helping to revise it, what would you include? Our next meeting will be on Saturday, May 14, at 1:00 PM.

A Prayer for Ukraine
God of peace and justice,
We pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
That your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
For wisdom, discernment and compassion
To guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
That you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.
Archbishop Justin Welby – Archbishop Stephen Cottrell

HELP UKRAINIAN REFUGEES
“For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…”
Matthew 25:35
|
|
Over four million refugees have recently fled war-torn Ukraine. Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD) is partnering with Anglican agencies and other ecumenical partners to provide humanitarian aid in response to this crisis. Please help us to supply needed items for displaced families and individuals who are fleeing the war to other parts of Europe.
As we pray for an end to violence and for those fleeing Ukraine, we also pray for ERD and other ecumenical agencies working to respond to the current crisis. Specific needs will change as the crisis evolves. As of right now, there is a need for food, water and shelter.
