Volume 12, Issue #30
July 28, 2022

In the name of Christ, we embrace all people to be nourished and empowered by the Holy Spirit to love and serve the world.
From Peter's Pen

The Lambeth Conference is currently underway. The Archbishop of Canterbury (head of our Anglican Communion) calls this conference together every ten years. It is a gathering of bishops from 165 different countries across the worldwide Anglican Communion, held at the University of Kent, Canterbury Cathedral and Lambeth Palace in England. Over 650 bishops are expected to attend this year, out of a possible 1,000. Our own Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and Bishop Mark Van Koevering are in attendance.

Unlike many other church conferences, Lambeth does not meet for legislative work. Instead, it focuses on building relationships between bishops, on Bible study (interestingly, the chosen text for this year is 1st Peter, which we have been studying in our own parish Bible study), and on prayer. An overview of the conference and its aims can be found here:

This conference runs through August 8. I encourage you to keep all of these bishops in your prayers. May they be enabled by the Spirit to listen, to love, and to bring back to us the Word that we need for our own local ministries!

With Joy,
Peter +

CONGRATULATIONS, NATE!
We are excited to announce that Nathaniel Keffer passed his Eagle Scout board!!

You are invited to attend Nate’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Saturday, August 13, at 5:30 PM at the church. A potluck dinner will follow in the parish hall.

As a part of his work toward attaining Eagle Scout, Nate earned 42 badges. His Eagle Project was leading the restoration of Camp Hope at the Cathedral Domain, which allowed him to utilize his leadership skills. He is the troop’s 147th Eagle Scout.

Among other honors, Nathaniel was named the 2019 Outstanding Scout in Troop 281. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow. He has held a variety of positions within the troop and is a senior at Frankfort Christian Academy.
NEWS FROM SIMON HOUSE
Simon House is trying a new approach to get donated items into the hands of clients who need them. On the first Friday of each month, they will hold a FREE YARD SALE offering donated clothing, household items, etc., for anyone to take what they need. The first one will be on Friday, August 5, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM.

If you know anyone who would benefit by receiving things in this sale, please pass on the word! We also need as many helpers as possible on either or both days. We will meet at Simon House (the new location at 231 East Main) on Thursday, August 4, at 1:00 PM to go through the items available and get them ready for the giveaway on Friday. If anyone is interested, please join us!

Thanks so much for your help with this new community outreach.

A PRAYER FOR UKRAINE
God of peace and justice,
We pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
That your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
For wisdom, discernment and compassion
To guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
That you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.
Archbishop Justin Welby – Archbishop Stephen Cottrell
