Volume 12, Issue #31
August 2, 2022

In the name of Christ, we embrace all people to be nourished and empowered by the Holy Spirit to love and serve the world.
Thank you to all who are praying for and have already donated to those affected by the disastrous flooding in eastern Kentucky. Please continue to spread the word that our help is desperately needed as we support those in the flood zone.

URGENT REQUEST
for Ascension Partnership:

Our own Kristi and Laura Buffenmyer (of Everyday Matters in Frankfort) are asking for help from Ascension for a specific non-profit agency in Hindman, Ky., called Treasured Friends LLC. Like Everyday Matters, Treasured Friends operates as a home for the mentally handicapped.

Flood damage in Hindman is catastrophic. The folks at Treasured Friends are completely starting over. They have four houses that are in dire need; everyone is currently housed in their day program building with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Ascension is partnering with Everyday Matters to provide direct help to Treasured Friends.

Kristi plans to leave on Friday, August 5, to take a load of supplies directly to Treasured Friends in Hindman. Everyday Matters is purchasing mattresses, bedding, kitchen items, cleaning supplies, water, gift cards, and anything else that comes to mind.

Ascension is asked to gather cleaning supplies, buckets, bottled water and non-perishable food items. Old or new clothing items for men would be helpful. VISA gift cards for any amount will also be accepted. This is very short notice but needs are urgent, and your help can make a big difference.

You may drop off items at church on WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY THIS WEEK.

Your support is very much appreciated - thank you in advance!

Sincerely,

Father Peter Doddema

CONGRATULATIONS, NATE!
We are excited to announce that Nathaniel Keffer passed his Eagle Scout board!!

You are invited to attend Nate’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Saturday, August 13, at 5:30 PM at the church. A potluck dinner will follow in the parish hall.

As a part of his work toward attaining Eagle Scout, Nate earned 42 badges. His Eagle Project was leading the restoration of Camp Hope at the Cathedral Domain, which allowed him to utilize his leadership skills. He is the troop’s 147th Eagle Scout.

Among other honors, Nathaniel was named the 2019 Outstanding Scout in Troop 281. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow. He has held a variety of positions within the troop and is a senior at Frankfort Christian Academy.
NEWS FROM SIMON HOUSE
Simon House is trying a new approach to get donated items into the hands of clients who need them. On the first Friday of each month, they will hold a FREE YARD SALE offering donated clothing, household items, etc., for anyone to take what they need. The first one will be on Friday, August 5, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM.

If you know anyone who would benefit by receiving things in this sale, please pass on the word! We also need as many helpers as possible on either or both days. We will meet at Simon House (the new location at 231 East Main) on Thursday, August 4, at 1:00 PM to go through the items available and get them ready for the giveaway on Friday. If anyone is interested, please join us!

Thanks so much for your help with this new community outreach.

A PRAYER FOR UKRAINE
God of peace and justice,
We pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
That your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
For wisdom, discernment and compassion
To guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
That you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.
Archbishop Justin Welby – Archbishop Stephen Cottrell
