FROM PETER'S PEN
Beginning in October, our Sunday Bible Study will delve into some of the darker and more untamed areas of the Bible: The Book of Revelation (also known as The Apocalypse of John) and some of the Gnostic writings.
The Book of Revelation, likely written about 60 years after Jesus walked the earth, is filled with other-worldly images of saints, martyrs, and monsters. It portrays a vast, cosmic God sitting enthroned above the chaos of the world, yet still personal and intimate. We find a God who reaches down and wipes the tears from our eyes.
The Book of Revelation has interested Christians for millennia. Its images amaze and defy easy interpretation. When read carefully, it depicts a God who is with us through every stage of our lives. God is deeply personal who loves and cares for each of us.
We will spend a few weeks looking at highlights from this remarkable book. After that, we will spend a few more weeks looking at some of the books that did not make it into Scripture. Many of these were written by early Christians now called gnostics. This term identifies people who sought higher wisdom (or gnosis) outside the boundaries of early Christianity. Some of their books nearly made it into the final version of the Bible. Others are...lesser literary lights that may have been specific to a few individuals or early congregations.
Please come and join us in exploring some of the wilder parts of our Christian tradition! We meet in the library right after the Sunday morning service.

A PRAYER FOR UKRAINE
God of peace and justice,
We pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
That your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
For wisdom, discernment and compassion
To guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
That you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.
Archbishop Justin Welby – Archbishop Stephen Cottrell
