Simon House helped serve 38 people in our community with our “First Friday Freebies” event in August. We had a couple of people who were staying with relatives in Frankfort that lived in the flood-ravaged areas of eastern Kentucky. These individuals had lost everything and were so grateful for the clothes, shoes, and dishware that were available that day. We were also able to help some families with referrals and case management, which was really needed. This outreach to the community was heartwarming as well as helpful.
Because of that success, we want to provide this service again in September. Because the first Friday is the beginning of Labor Day weekend, we will delay our event until Friday, September 9. If you know of families or people needing essential clothing or household items, please let them know about this event.
If you would like to help us, we will meet at the 231 E. Main Street office on Thursday, September 8, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM to organize items, and then for the event on Friday from 1:00-4:30 PM. Volunteers may choose to come any time during those time frames.
As always, our mothers, children, and clients have the first choice of any item donated to Simon House. They appreciate all these donations so much as they work at becoming self-sufficient. However, once they have chosen what they need, we do not have room to continue to store items indefinitely. That’s why we are trying these “Freebie Fridays.” If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call our office at 502-223-2138.
Thanks so much,
Linda Stopper

A PRAYER FOR UKRAINE
God of peace and justice,
We pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
That your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
For wisdom, discernment and compassion
To guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
That you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.
Archbishop Justin Welby – Archbishop Stephen Cottrell
