FROM PETER'S PEN
This coming Sunday, Ascension welcomes Ms. Kristie Powe. Kristie is with us representing FORR (Focus on Race Relations). She will speak during the announcement portion of the service, giving us more information on FORR and encouraging us to be aware of the need for change in our community.
As I discussed in the January 30 sermon, there is still significant hatred and violence in our community toward African-Americans, Jews, and other minority groups. My own child, in openly exploring Judaism, came face-to-face with this hate on a regular basis.
The main point Ms. Powe and FORR are making is that this hate is best dealt with through conversation and listening to one another. FORR exists to help make these conversations happen in healthy ways and to make our community a safer, healthier place for everyone. I am delighted to welcome her and ask that, if possible, you attend worship, listen to her, and help her to feel welcome in this important work.
With Joy,
Peter +
