Volume 10, Issue #1 - January 2, 2020

In the name of Christ, we embrace all people to be nourished and empowered by the Holy Spirit to love and serve the world.
FROM PETER'S PEN

Happy New Year! Now that we have begun 2020, we will also begin reading through the Gospels. As mentioned previously, I will lead a group in reading through the four Gospels during 2020. We will meet each Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in the parish library (during the Preacher's Forum time).

Our basic Scripture translation is the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV): this is the same version that we use during worship services here at Ascension. However, I am encouraging everyone to also explore other translations of the Bible. One of the main goals of this reading group is to gain a good, basic understanding of these Gospels. That is much easier to do if you are comfortable with the translation of the Bible that you are reading. 🙂 I will have several different copies of Bible translations available for you to peruse during our first meeting on January 5.
For the first meeting on January 5, please read The Gospel of Mark, Chapter 1 . Mark is thought to be the first Gospel that was written. Mark was a foundation for Matthew and Luke when they wrote their Gospels, so reading Mark first will start us in a good place.

I look forward to reading, journeying, and learning with you!

With joy,
Peter+
