Volume 8, Issue #19 - May 10, 2018

In the name of Christ, we embrace all people to be nourished and empowered by the Holy Spirit to love and serve the world.
Several weeks ago, Bishop Mark Van Koevering invited us to join in ten days of intentional prayer "to discern God's will for our Diocese. As you pray, inquire how you as an individual, family and church might better live out your call to bring the reality of new life in Jesus Christ to your community and to our Diocese. After Pentecost, we will start collecting your stories. In the Autumn we will hold a workshop with representatives from around the diocese to describe our common vision and pinpoint a few strategic themes for our work together."

Well, today is the Feast of the Ascension, and it is the first day of those ten that will end on Pentecost. In addition to our regular Morning Prayer, we will also be saying Evening Prayer here each day at 5:00 p.m. I invite you to join us in communal prayer if it is possible; if not, please make time for prayer and reflection in your study, at your dinner tables, or wherever it is that you best listen to God.

As you are able, I urge you to journal what you might be hearing God whisper to you in your moments of reflection, so that you might somehow share them at a later date.

Bishop Mark provided us with a link that has many resources available to help us, and I offer that to you, too (click the logo above) . Another thing about this link that I think is pertinent to us, is that it reminds us that we are a part of something much larger than just being members of the Church of the Ascension, Diocese of Lexington, and the Episcopal Church; we are a part of the world-wide Anglican Communion, and we are called to live into proclaiming the gospel with that rich Anglican spirit that we have been given.

I ask that you pick up your prayer books, your rosaries and whatever other forms of devotion you have, and join us in this prayerful endeavor.
