CONFIRMATION/RECEPTION INSTRUCTION OFFERED

Bishop Van Koevering, our Bishop (Provisional), will make his official annual visitation to Ascension on October 28. On that day he will administer the rites of Confirmation and/or Reception to those candidates seeking to officially become an Episcopalian.

Confirmation and Reception are rooted in the baptismal covenant. Confirmation is the sacramental rite in which the candidates "express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop" (BCP, p. 860). Reception is the recognition that a person has been confirmed in another branch of the catholic and apostolic Church (Roman Catholic, Old Catholic, Lutheran, Orthodox, Moravian, etc.), and the bishop receives them into the Episcopal Church.
 
Those who were baptized at an early age and those baptized as adults without laying on of hands by a bishop of the catholic and apostolic Church  are expected to make a mature public affirmation of their faith, recommit themselves to the responsibilities of their baptism, and receive laying on of hands by a bishop (BCP, p. 412).

Preparation for Confirmation/Reception should help the candidates discover the meaning of Christian commitment in their lives, and explore ways that their Christian commitment can be lived. This preparation may draw upon the baptismal covenant (BCP, pp. 416-417) and An Outline of the Faith (BCP, pp. 845-862).

Becoming an Episcopalian means that you are making the formal commitment, as a Christian, to the Anglican/Episcopal tradition, and are able to fully participate in the life and governance of the church at the parish (vestry and officers) and diocese (serve on committees & commissions).

Please join me on Saturday, September 1, at 10:00 a.m. in the parish library to learn about a new ministry of the Episcopal Church that is coming to Ascension. Invite, Welcome, Connect is a newcomer ministry that is currently activated in parishes and diocese all over the country. It is a way to show our community and visitors the love of Christ through how we interact and reach out to them. Our greeters/ushers will play a key role and your input will be crucial, so please plan to be there. Anyone else interested in learning more is also encouraged to attend.

‘CHORDS OF COMPASSION’ Concert Series to benefit ROSM (Resource Office of Social Ministry) – Last concert of the summer series will be on Saturday, August 25, 7:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 72 Shepherd Way, in Frankfort. This series has featured a variety of musicians – including a concert pianist, a trumpeter, a violinist, a choir, and more! – each representing a different local church. Please gather in the church between 9:45-10:00 a.m. No latecomers – at 10:05, we will lock the doors and move to a quiet interior room for about an hour. SUMMER OFFICE SCHEDULE

The parish office continues on a modified summer schedule, closing on Fridays. Office hours through August will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Regular Tuesday-Friday office hours will resume in September. Morning Prayer continues on the regular schedule, including Fridays.
