Volume 9, Issue #28 - July 17, 2019

In the name of Christ, we embrace all people to be nourished and empowered by the Holy Spirit to love and serve the world.
Book Buddies Mentoring Program

Church of the Ascension is partnering with First Baptist Church and Frankfort Independent Schools to create a literacy-based mentoring program at Second Street School, kindergarten through grade three.

We are looking for volunteers who will commit to one day a week at Second Street, usually during the lunch period, and read to a child. (We are checking to see if every other week would also be possible.) Our goal is to recruit 20 mentors by the end of July so we can start shortly after school starts. This could be a good lead in for recruiting future Reading Campers!

Teachers will decide which students need this service. Volunteers will need to undergo a criminal background check and a child abuse screening, and attend training provide by the school. Contact Ronnie Dunn at 502-226-0205 ( ronniedunn07@gmail.com ) or Deacon Rebecca ( curate@ascensionfrankfort.org ) to ask questions and/or sign up!
A Plea from Simon House

This time of year marks a critical time for food for our residents and community clients. Simon House often provides food to those who do not qualify for food from our Emergency Food Pantry, and to some who just need help for a day.

In the summer months, Simon House families often do not receive assistance school food programs. The staff refers residents and community clients to other programs in the area that have food, but there are some who are not able to travel to those places.

Any help you are able to give during this time of extreme need would be greatly appreciated. Refrigerated and non-perishable foods can be stored; anything will help those in need! Bring your donations to church next Sunday, July 21, OR to deliver directly to Simon House, please call first: 502-223-2138.
