Volume 9, Issue #5 - January 31, 2019

In the name of Christ, we embrace all people to be nourished and empowered by the Holy Spirit to love and serve the world.
2019 Scout Sunday

This Sunday, February 3, we will recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting, especially BSA Troops #281 and #1281, both sponsored by Ascension.

“The Boy Scouts of America maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God. In the first part of the Scout Oath or Promise the member declares, “On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law.”

The recognition of God as the ruling and leading power in the universe and the grateful acknowledgment of His favors and blessings are necessary to the best type of citizenship and are wholesome precepts in the education of the growing members. No matter what the religious faith of the members may be, this fundamental need of good citizenship should be kept before them.

The Boy Scouts of America, therefore, recognizes the religious element in the training of the member, but it is absolutely nonsectarian in its attitude toward that religious training. Its policy is that the home and the organization or group with which the member is connected shall give definite attention to religious life.”

And Announcing:

New Scouts BSA Troop #1281 will be chartered in the first week of February, sponsored by Ascension. Five girls are already signed on, and we welcome their participation in this Sunday's service. They will meet in Ascension's parish hall weekly, on Monday evenings. Check out this televised interview with the troop sponsor, Natalie Lile, and her daughter.

What is Scouts BSA?

For the first time in its 100+ year history, the iconic program of the Boy Scouts of America will be open to young women. Scouts BSA is a year-round program for boys and girls in fifth grade through high school that provides fun, adventure, learning, challenge, and responsibility to help them become the best version of themselves.
In Scouts BSA, young men and women go places, test themselves, and have one-of-a-kind adventures that can’t be found anywhere else. Learn more here.
