Biden Education Agenda Will Face Strong Headwinds on Capitol Hill
On Saturday, the race for President appeared to largely end as most major news organizations declared Joe Biden the President-Elect. While four states remain uncalled – Alaska, Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina – and some may head into recounts – Wisconsin and ultimately Georgia, it appears that the Biden-Harris ticket has secured enough votes in the electoral college to lead the country come January 20th, 2021. With vote counting continuing and President Trump and his allies filing lawsuits challenging the legitimacy of the election in multiple states, it may seem foolhardy to write a column discussing the remainder of this year and what to expect when you’re expecting a Biden Presidency. For the first time, this year's Speak Up Congressional Briefing, presented by Project Tomorrow, was a virtual event hosted by edWeb enabling outreach to a wider audience of K-12 education stakeholders. A special focus this year was on a discussion of how lessons learned from the sudden shift to digital learning in spring 2020 can help accelerate changes in K-12 education. The event featured a panel of K-12 students from around the country who shared their authentic views on the Speak Up findings.

Project Tomorrow has created a report on Digital Learning during the Pandemic: Emerging Evidence of an Education Transformation, providing key research findings to support how students, teachers and parents are thinking differently about teaching and learning as a result of distance learning in spring 2020. According to the report, 55% of teachers say digital content must include professional learning. Only 37% said the same before school closures.
